    Robben Island Museum (RIM), established by the Department of Arts and Culture in 1997, is a public entity responsible for the management, maintenance, presentation, development and marketing of Robben Island as a national estate and World Heritage Site.

    RIM is also responsible for managing and maintaining the Islands assets, including the Medium and Maximum Security Prison Complexes, Robert Sobukwe’s House, Curio shops, Village Shops, the Village Precinct and related recreational facilities, as well as the Helipad and runway on the Island, World War 2 memorials, power generation and water processing plants, Jetty 1 and the Nelson Mandela Gateway the Mayibuye Archives, the 3 ferries that transport people to the Island and buses used by tourists on the Island.

    Guided tours take place every day, Monday to Sunday, of the island’s prison including lime quarry where prisoners labored & Mandela’s cell. The Robben Island experience starts at the Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town at 4 allocated times each day.

    Robben Island Museum are inviting suitable candidates to join their 12 month Internship programme at Robben Island Museum, in the Operations department. Learners will be reponsible for ensuring visitors safety and providing visitors with information and services about RIM.

    Duties and Responsibilities of the role:

    • Welcoming visitors at the RIM Information Office and Murray’s Harbour
    • Checking and counting visitors tickets
    • Assisting visitors with the use of all technical facilities of the Exhibitions
    • Assisting visitors with special needs (including prams and wheelchairs)
    • Assisting sea sick visitors and arranging the nurse
    • Assisting visitors with boarding on ferries
    • Keeping track of number of visitors boarding the ferry
    • Announcing on boarding and on departure
    • Assisting and facilitating school visits
    • Collecting and registering lost and found items
    • Providing information about the conference facilities at the Gateway
    • Circulating information about tourism services and products at RIM and throughout the Western Cape
    • Ensuring information about Western Cape tourism is current
    • Receiving and transferring request from various sources (including via email and telephone)
    • Ensuring electronic information board is up to date
    • Reporting any issues to the relevant departments (including cleaning, maintenance and security)
    • Distributing and collecting RI feedback questionnaires and forwarding to the correct department
    • Training temps when required

    • Providing assistance in the vetting of all contracts that enter NBG
    • Providing assistance in vetting all binding agreements that enter NBG (Memorandum of Agreement/Understanding and Strategic Agreements)

    • Providing assistance and researching any contractual risks/ legislative provisions
    • Providing assistance and assessing contractual legal risk minimisation

    3) Assist with drafting legal opinions:

    • Providing assistance in the drafting of legal opinions pertaining to NGB
    • Providing assistance in research for all the legal, applicable principles
    • Provide assistance in client consultations
    • Providing assistance with opinions on concluded contractual matters/ as they relate to contract management
    • Providing assistance and opinions on statutory issues
    • Providing assistance with PAJA matters and PAIA requests
    • Provide opinions on internal appeals pertaining to PAIA and PAJA
    • Providing assistance and ensuring all contracts are legally certified

    4) Assist with legal advice on policy, statutory matters, legislation, and contracts:

    • Providing assistance with the drafting of legal advice on statutory matters, policy, contracts, and legislation
    • Provide customers assistance in consultations
    • Provide research on legislative provisions that are applicable
    • Providing assistance and advice on the significance of statutory matters, contracts, compliance with policy, and legislation
    • Provide assistance by guaranteeing all legal advice on legislation, policy statutory matters, and contracts are legally certified

    5) Assist with legal advice to Bid Specification Committee (BSC) and Bid Adjudication Committee (BAC):

    • Providing assistance by the means of legal advice to BSC and BAC with the aim of assist members to conclude decisions for each procurement
    • Providing assistance and attending BAC and BSC meetings
    • Providing assistance by consulting members on legal issues matters for each procurement
    • Providing assistance by ensuring compliance is met with SCM, PFMA, and PPPFA policy
    • Providing assistance by ensuring that bidding agreements and vetted contracts are legally certified whilst also ensuring the relevant authority has been given for each procurement
