    ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

    The Basil Read bursary programme was initiated to help financially needing students to follow their dreams and continue their studies in light of their financial positions. Bursaries will be awarded within the following fields of study:

    • Civil Engineering (BSc/ BEng)
    • Mining Engineering (BSc/ BEng/ National Diploma)
    • Quantity Surveying (BSc/ BSc Hons)

     

    The following expenses will be covered by the bursary award: registration fees, tuition, prescribed textbooks, stationery, accommodation and meals.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    • South African citizen
    • Completed Matric
    • Studying within one of the aforementioned fields of study (second or later year of study)
    • Studying full-time at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa
    • Achieved high results in Mathematics and Science
    • Passionate and enthusiastic about a career within the built environment

    The Old Mutual Education Trust (OMET) was established by Old Mutual in 2005, as part of a BBBEE transaction with 10 unions the company has a business relationship with.     ABOUT THE OMETBURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

    The Old Mutual Education Trust (OMET) are inviting students who are members (or are related to members) of participating trade unions, to apply for the bursary programme. The bursary is available for studies in ANY field, towards an undergraduate Degree, BTech or Diploma.

    The bursary will be awarded based on the following criteria: academic ability (most important criteria), followed by the field of study, financial need and gender.
    The bursary provide partial financial cover, up to a maximum value of R65 000, for study-related expenses (such as registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed books, study materials, accommodation, meals and a transport allowance). Bursary recipients will also receive tutoring support, a computer (1st year entrants only), peer buddy support system by senior students (for 1st year students only), support for students who require 2 weeks’ vacation work during holidays (for full-time students only), full mentorship programme delivered by OMET Alumni (for final year students only), student support programme with focus on academic success, psychological/ emotional well-being and preparation for the world of work, and graduates will also be transitioned into OMET’s Alumni programme where they will continue as mentors and motivators to current students.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE OMET BURSARY

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    • You must be studying towards a tertiary qualification (full-time, part-time or distance-learning)
    • You must be studying towards a first-time undergraduate qualification in ANY field of study (Degree, Diploma or BTech)
    • You must be studying at a recognised University in South Africa

    Applicants must also satisfy any ONE of these criteria to apply:

    • Be a member or staff member of a participating trade union
    • Be a spouse of a member or living with a member or employee in a relationship like a marriage
    • Be a child (including adopted child or a stepchild) of a member or staff member AND be under 25 years old
    • Be a grandchild or child of the member or be a staff member under 25 years old AND be financially dependent on the member

    South Africa Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) is an association which manages the affairs of 3 other associations, including the South African Avocado Growers’ Association (SAAGA), the South African Litchi Growers’ Association (SALGA) and the South African Mango Growers’ Association (SAMGA).

    SAAGA’s list of objectives and aims include: to research the production and marketing of avocados; to provide recommendations regarding the after harvest handling and distribution of avocados; to encourage local marketing of avocados as well as export and assist with marketing information distribution and more.

    ABOUT THE SUBTROP SAAGA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

    Subtrop are inviting students to apply for the SAAGA bursary for the 2022 academic year. Every year, the bursary scheme provides financial assistance to students pursuing Agricultural studies, with the goal of ensuring graduates of colour enter the South African avocado industry.

    Students who are studying towards a BSc Agriculture degree or equivalent (majoring in Horticultural Science, Agricultural Economics or Agribusiness) are encouraged to apply.

    MORE ABOUT THE SUBTROP SAAGA BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE, OBLIGATIONS & SELECTION

    Bursaries are awarded for 1 academic year at a time, and are renewable each year based on satisfactory academic performance. The bursary value will depend on the needs of the students and will be reviewed annually.

    Bursary recipients will be required to enter into a contractual agreement with Subtrop. Once graduated, students will be required to work for SA Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) for an amount of time equal to their bursary award.

    Subtrop will appoint a panel of judges to make the selection for the bursary. All candidates will receive feedback on the outcome of their application as soon as possible.

    ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

    The Joel Joffe Scholarship is applicable to 3rd-year LLB undergraduate students, pursuing their studies at the University of the Western Cape or the University of Fort Hare.

    The scholarship will provide cover for tuition fees of the last year of your LLB study, to a maximum value of R40 000. Scholarships are provided for up to a maximum of 2 years.

    Once students have graduated, they will take part in a paid internship position at Equal Education Law Centre or Legal Resources Centre. Students will also have the opportunity to increase their academic and leadership skills via organised events.

    Tshipi é Ntle Manganese Mining (Pty) Ltd is the biggest South African single manganese mine and exporter, as well as one of the five biggest global manganese ore exporters. The South African independently operated and managed company is a black empowered producer of manganese ore, located in the Kalahari Manganese Field (KMF).

    The manganese is mined from a shallow open-cast mine called Tshipi Borwa mine, and the ore is processed at a plant in the Kalahari Manganese Field. Tshipi é Ntle is derived from the Tswana language, which means “beautiful steel”.

    There is a work-back obligation with this bursary award, whereby students must work at Murray & Roberts for the equal duration of their bursary award.
