    Key performance areas of the programme:

    • Performing project support skills

    In Saldanha Bay, 1964, Pescanova, a Spanish-owned fishing company caught interest in a fishing village on South Africa’s West Coast. Pescanova, along with other fishing bodies then formed Sea Harvest.

    Sea Harvest’s purpose is deep sea trawling of local Hake and packaging the fish into frozen products which can then be distributed locally and internationally. Owing to technological expertise, within the first year of opening, Sea Harvest had production that used high-end processing equipment and techniques. Sea Harvest was also was South Africa’s biggest automatic refrigeration installation within their first 12 months of production.

    In 2008, the South African consortium purchased Sea Harvest, lead by Brimstone Investments and Kagiso- a Cape-based empowerment company. This purchase made Sea Harvest South Africa’s biggest empowerment company in the fish industry.
    Today, Sea Harvest operates and owns 42 vessels, including a number of trawlers used to catch and process fish, most notably the Cape Hake. Sea Harvest still stayed true to their roots in Saldanha Bay and today they are the single largest employer to that municipality and it’s surrounding areas.

    Sea Harvest has been labelled as a national asset, contributing to half of commercial fisheries income in South Africa. Annually, they launch projects across all sectors to help in the preservation of the fishing habitat. They pride themselves conserving the environment, supporting the ecosystem all while strengthening their companies longevity.

    Sea Harvest is looking for a qualified legal graduate/ post-articles candidate interested in learning and growing in their establishment to join their team on a 12 month term contract. The candidate will be joining the Group company Secretariat and Legal Department. This role will supply the candidate with exposure to both legal and governance related competencies and compliance.

    Key Performance areas of the programme:
    Monitoring the change in legislation affecting the company whilst making sure Sea Harvest stays up to date with new legislative developments. Drafting and evaluating legal agreements, assisting the companies secretary and performing assigned legally-orientated duties and responsibilities.

    DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

    SAMEA is offering a PACT Research Psychology Master’s Internship. The goal of PACT Government Capacity Building and Support (GCBS) is to enhance the Department of Social Development systems at all levels, focusing on the reduction of HIV and AIDS cases while improving the service delivery to children. The intern, as part of Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) will be located in PACT South Africa’s Pretoria office and will be granted the opportunity to work with some of the district-based staff. The intern will report to the senior advisor of MERL as well as give support on the GCBS Strategy 2 activities, focusing on performing research that’s both qualitative and quantitative. This research will include implementation, design, data collection, reporting, and analysis.

    Key Performance Areas of the Programme:

    • Providing assistance in the implementation and design of the identified GCBS research ventures.
    • Participate in identified studies, part of GCBS gap analysis
    • Researching and developing group analysis proposals
    • Assisting in the reviewing and development of data collection tools as well as GCBS routine programme monitoring data collection in Tshwane
    • Coding and preparing data that is applicable to the group analysis identified study
    • Publishing of GCBS papers (if applicable)
    • Supporting all components of GCBS with processes in the areas of research methodology and ethics
    • Spreading evaluation results, Annual and Semi-Annual reports of GCBS programme
    • Based on gap analysis, spreading results for studies
    • Improving data management by the use of support processes- this includes any mandatory data capturing, analysis, collation as well as maintenance of the filing systems for GCBS
    • Partaking in admin tasks, performing written translation to assist the program team as well as performing any other duties
    • Performing all functions with the consideration of having the best interest of Pact SA in mind
    • Ensuring the completion of regular data backups
    • Performing any other designated tasks
