    GirlCode is a Non-Profit Organisation aimed to help empower and employ women through the means of technology. Girl Code has a goal to educate these women in development, technology, tech and design so that they can be better equipped as well as help diversify future companies and products.

    GirlCode has three main initiative. The first one is ‘GirlCode club’- this is a network established by volunteer, weekend working clubs aims at high-school students. GirlCode club allows these young females to build a foundation in coding skills that is strong and will be beneficial for their future. The second is ‘SMME Accelerator’ – this is an initiative aimed to help Tech Small Medium Enterprises (SME’s) owned by female entrepreneurs. This initiative/programme runs for 6 months to a full year. The last initiative Girl Code has is ‘Workshops’- this is a 6-month, weekend, hands-on training that is done in person and educates candidates on how to become successful developers.

    ABOUT THE COMPANY

    Sibanye Gold is a South Africa independent mining company, currently operating top quality uranium and gold operations around the Witwatersrand Basin.

    Sibanye Gold Academy are seeking hard-working, dynamic employees who wish to take part in a Mining Learnership.

    ABOUT THE LEARNERSHIP

    The following learnership programmes are offered by Sibanye Gold each year:

    • Diesel Mechanic (Kloof and Driefontein only)
    • Electrical
    • Fitting (inc. Machining)
    • Instrumentation Mechanician
    • Mining Level 3 (Rock Breaker National Certificate)
    • Plater / Welder
    • Rigger Ropesman

     

    Before entering the learnership programme, students will be required to:

    • Undergo a risk-based medical examination at a Sibanye Gold Occupational Health Care Centre – candidates must be medically fit for the environment and the position
    • Undergo a psychometric evaluation and pre-screening
    • Undergo a clearance screening by the SAPS
    • Short listed students must attend a panel interview

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • South African citizen
    • Rock Breaker Learnership: must have completed Grade 9 or NQF Level 1 Educational Certificate equivalent (with English and Mathematics)

    *Please Note: Preference will be given to candidates who have a minimum of 6 months prior mining experience in the mining production environment.
