    The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) was established in South Africa with the vision of building an inclusive and differentiated post-school system. This was aimed to aid South Africans in accessing necessary training and post-school education to meet the social goals and economic objective of the country. The mission of the department is to create well educated, capable, and skilled South Africans who can participate in a diverse, sustainable, and highly-knowledgeable global economy (this would further lead to advancements and the achievement of development goals for the country.) The DHET aims to do this by: decreasing skills bottlenecks (primarily in areas where priority skills are needed); improving the rate of participation within the system; correcting of distributions pertaining to the size, shape, and distribution of access to tertiary/post-school training/education; and lastly, upgrading the efficiency and quality within the subsystems, the system as a whole and all institutions.

    The Department of Higher Education and Training, along with the Free State Community Education and Training College is offering a learnership/ bursary opportunity to unemployed candidates. This programme is open to candidates who are interested in obtaining a 1-year Occupational Certificate in Health Promotion Officer.

    ABOUT THE LEARNERSHIP

    Each year, Novus Holdings offer learnership/ apprenticeship opportunities for students who wish to enter the field of print media.

    Successful candidates will be required to enter into an apprenticeship contract with Novus Holdings (Paarl Media) and the SETA, via FP&M SETA. Training will include theoretical training at Novus Academy for 6 months and core experiential training at Novus Print Solutions for 26 to 30 months.

    Apprentices will earn an income for the duration of the apprenticeship programme.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • South African citizen
    • Completed Matric
    • Achieved a minimum of 50% for Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy in Matric
    • Previous work experience would be advantageous, but is not a mandatory requirement
    • Good command of the English language
    • Willing to work shifts
    • Technical foundation is an advantage
    • An eye for detail, especially good colour perception
