    Along with the hands-on displays, the Cape Town Science Centre also offers the following interactive displays: Science shows; Workshops that are both hands-on and curriculum-based; Programmes that run in the holidays; Science Camps; Science Theatre; Exhibitions about travelling; Experiments that are hands-on; Excursions; Programmes that are experiential driven; Learner enrichment school on Saturdays; Tournaments and workshops for robotics; Science talks that are popular, ‘Science Out Loud’; Examination preparation lessons for science and maths; Workshops for educator enrichment; Educator Forums; Courses for Computers; Topical science events mini-exhibitions.

    ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

    Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
    Duration: 12 months

    The Cape Town Science Centre is offering an internship opportunity for unemployed graduates. This programme aims to use the candidate’s skills and knowledge as part of their National Youth Service Programme. The programme runs for 1 year and the candidate will receive a monthly stipend.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Encounters is offering a paid internship opportunity with the support of the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP.) The programme will specialise in Festival Training and Skills Development, aiding individuals looking to start a career in Film Curation and Festival Management.

    The programme will take place from Thursday 1 April 2021- Thursday 24 June 2021, and requires candidates to work remotely/ part-time from the starting date. Cape Town candidates will participate in in-person select events, as well as office work. The programme will run along with Encounters ’23rd Encounters Festival’ from the 10th to the 20th of June- this will allow candidates to gain practical experience.
    The Festival Director, Mandisa Zitha and other experienced staff will provide the candidate with mentorship.
    The candidate will also gain knowledge and experience from the constant Masterclasses and Workshops provided. These Masterclasses and Workshops will cover topics such as Marketing PR, Event Management, Film Programming, Sales and Distribution with a focus on African cinema, audience development, digital platforms, outreach, and industry event planning.

    During this programme, candidates will be required to think outside of the box as they use digital tools to orchestrate a festival. Candidates will be further encouraged to develop new ways of curation, exhibition, documentary film-making, and changing viewing trends

    Retail: This Retail Front-line Programme aims to train individuals so that they can be knowledgeable about sales, in-store policies and distribution centres. The aim of this programme is to expose candidates to the Retail Whole Value Chain and help them develop skills that will further assist them in planning, operations, buying and store management.
    Supply Chain: This is a programme aimed to create skills pertaining to Textile, Clothing and Footwear Manufacturers. In this programme, candidates will be trained as a multi-skilled machine operator, learning how to meet the high demand for garments. This programme will be advantageous to fashion and clothing graduates as they will learn production elements such as pattern making, planning, design and costing. Candidates are also offered experience at a local firm’s workplace.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

    The main goal of the intern is to: perform managerial tasks in relation to sport and recreation facilities and programmes, and manage the regions sport and recreation section.
