    How to Apply DUT

    There are many compelling reasons to apply to DUT. This university offers students access to knowledgeable faculty and resources to help them succeed. How do we apply to DUT?

    The first step is to familiarise yourself with the university’s career leaflets. These leaflets detail specific criteria required for admission into the various programmes of study. Familiarising yourself with the programme criteria and class load will help you prepare for the studies to come.

    Once you have decided which programme to seek admission to, complete your online application through the Central Applications Office. You will need to have your identification documents and any school or tertiary school details before beginning the application.

    Applicants wishing to apply in person may attend Gate 11, Central Services Complex – UKZN, Mary Thiphe Street (Cato Manor Road), Cato Manor, Durban.

    Is there an application fee?

    The Durban University of Technology will charge a R$250 fee for South African applicants and an R$300 fee for international applicants. All applications must be routed through the Central Applications Office, which will collect your fee.

    What documents will I need?

    To apply for admission and register for classes, you will need to have:

    • Certified copy of identification documents, such as a passport or your Smart ID card
    • Certified copies of the Grade 12 certificate.

    You will also be required to complete the following documents:

    • Indemnity Form
    • Suretyship Form
    • M65 DUT Deposit Slip
    • ETF Form

    What are DUT Requirements for Admission?

    Minimum admission criteria vary depending on the level of your studies. For higher certificate programmes, you will need your National Senior Certificate (NSC) Level 4 with a minimum achievement rating for English of 50%.

    Diploma programmes require you to have a National Certificate Level 4 with at least 50% in English and three fundamental subjects. You must also have at least 60% scores in three compulsory vocational courses.

    Bachelor’s programmes require a National Certificate Level 4 and scores of at least 60% in English and three fundamental subjects and a score of at least 70% in four compulsory vocational subjects.

    Doctoral Students must have completed a Master’s Degree. This degree must be evaluated as NQF level 9 or higher, and students must have obtained a score of 70% or greater. Doctoral students will write a comprehensive thesis and, upon completion, will be awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in Management Sciences specialising in Public Administration.

    Are there alternative forms of admission?

    The Durban University of Technology recognises opportunities to participate in the university through a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) admission. Those wishing to apply as RPL students should contact the University’s Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, who will work with the student to determine their best path forward.

    DUT Application Dates

    Prospective students at the Durban University of Technology must complete their applications by 30 November of the preceding year. 2025 applicants should plan to complete their applications before 30 November 2025. Some programs may have differing application deadlines, so students will want to check their programme’s outline to validate these dates.

    DUT Registration and Payment

    Once you have applied and been accepted as a student at DUT, you must register for your classes and ensure your tuition and other fees are paid. Tuition and fees will vary, some depending on NSFAS awards and other factors. Your fees may vary from the schedule presented here.

    How Much Will I Need to Pay?

    Non-residential students, or those living away from the campus, must pay tuition fees of R$4,200 annually. Students registering for a single semester, such as those with one odd semester remaining before graduation, will pay R$2,570. Students residing on campus will pay fees of R$8,480 for a full year and R$5,190 for one semester.

    What Methods of Payment Are Accepted?

    Students may pay their fees in the following ways:

    • In-person, at the Cashiers. Students may pay by cash, cheque, or credit/debit card. Students should only pay money to the official fees office and obtain an official receipt. Never pay any university official except an official representative of the fees office.
    • By post. Postal payments can be mailed to:

    Cheques shall be made out to The Durban University of Technology, and payment shall include the following information about the student:

    • Surname
    • Initials
    • Identity Number

    ● Direct deposit. This is the simplest option and requires the least amount of hassle on the part of the student. Students can use Form M65 to remit their payment.

    ● UNESCO Coupons. Students using these coupons can present them to the University Cashier, who will convert them to currency to settle the university’s fees.

    Can I Use NSFAS Funds?

    Students who qualify for NSFAS funding may use this funding to attend DUT, once accepted. You may complete your NSFAS application at https://my.nsfas.org.za/Application/selfservice.jsp.

    You may qualify for NSFAS funding if your combined household income is below R$350,000 annually. Persons with disabilities may apply if their combined household income is below R$600,000.

    Applicants to the NSFAS will need:

    • A cell phone number and email address
    • Identification document or birth certificate
    • ID copies for parents, guardians, or spouse
    • Proof of 1 year’s income for yourself, parents, guardians, or spouse

    DUT Online Registration

    Once your application is paid and fees are settled, you may register for your classes. At this time, registration is online only. You will need a copy of your acceptance offer and to have completed all registration or other fees.

    Once all fees and paperwork are completed, students can attend the student portal at https://dutstudent.dut.ac.za/ to complete their registration. The computerised system will assist students in selecting the appropriate modules for their course of study and can also help students complete other relevant and necessary documentation.     DUT Orientation

    DUT desires all of its students to be successful. In that line of thinking, the university offers a comprehensive orientation programme. In previous years, this programme has been in-person; due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, orientation is now online only.

    DUT’s orientation is built on the philosophy of Sikusekele, or “We got you.” The orientation process is designed to integrate information students will need from various departments such as Student Governance, Student Housing, and the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. Examples of the content presented during orientation can be found here, relating to the 2025 orientation session.

    The orientation services for 2025 have been held online but are available as recorded sessions, so students may refer back for information later. Students who do not have access to modern or high-tech devices will find an easy-to-use, text-based version of the orientation online. Orientation will include short modules on the use of technology, especially Microsoft Teams, that students will utilise throughout their academic career and quite possibly in the workplace. Students are issued a certificate of completion once they finish the orientation process.

    Submitting applications can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. With the University of Pretoria, you can check the status of your online application by following these few easy steps:

    • Visit www.up.ac.za
    • From here, select ‘UPOnline’ and then ‘UPOnline application status.’
    • Here, you will see a detailed breakdown of how to apply. The steps include setting up a profile on the Student Portal, for which you will need to create an account with a username and password – make note of these somewhere safe!
    • Once this is done, visit the UP Portal and then click on ‘Student Centre’ to view your application’s status.

    Finding out whether or not you were accepted to your top university can be a wonderful yet nerve-wracking experience. To soothe some of these worries, the University of Free State (UFS), located in Bloemfontein, South Africa, has made it easy to check the status of your application online through their website.

    As with the application status, aspiring students can access the institution’s prospectus document entirely online.

    For those of you who wish to attend UFS in the upcoming academic year, continue reading this article in order to find out how to check your application status to help you become a prepared and organized UFS student.

    UFS Application Status

    Once you have submitted your application to UFS, you can start tracking the status of it online to find out if you have been accepted or denied. This can be done by visiting the university’s main website.

    Accordingly, on the UFS website, you will need to click on the “Students” tab located on the top of the webpage. Then, click on the “Student Self Service” tab that appears within the Student Toolbox bar.

    This should take you to the Kovsielife homepage, where you will find three options to choose from. Click on the middle-box entitled “Student Self Service” to be navigated to the Oracle Peoplesoft system.

    There, you will be prompted to enter your student number in the “User ID” box. Enter your password and click “Sign in.” This will navigate you to the Student Services Center homepage.

    Finally, under Academics, click “View application” to track the status of your application.

    Another easy way to check the status of your admission application, applicants simply have to log on to the university’s designated platform through the link, https://pssa.ufs.ac.za/psp/csprd/?cmd=login. This action leads to the next step that is the submission of login details (user id and password). Successful completion of these steps results in a successful login and subsequent display of admission status.

    When Do UFS Applications Close?

    The University of the Free State is currently accepting admission applications for any of its study programmes. The deadlines however are determined by the course. Any applicant interested in studying at UFS must take note of the following dates:

    July 31st Deadline for applications for architecture, quantity surveying, construction management and nursing
    August 31st Deadline for undergraduate applications from international students
    September 30th Deadline for geology, forensic sciences, music, social work and community development. This deadline equally applies to students applying to be transferred from other institutions to UFS.
    November 1st Deadline for fine arts admission applications

    UFS Residence Application Status

    UFS offers a number of housing options situated on campus and off campus. On campus accommodation requires the attachment of an application form to the admission application form. Campus residences cost between 1800 and 3180 South African Rand. The status of residence applications can be checked online at UFS’ application portal.

    How is Much UFS Application Fee?

    The University of the Free State has no application fee charge. Admission applications do not attract or require the payment of an application fee.

    The University of Fort Hare is an exciting and sustainable African university dedicated to teaching and learning and producing world-class research. Since 2004, the University of Fort Hare has been integrating a new campus in the city of East London, formerly under Rhodes University, into the University of Fort Hare.
