    Palabora Mining Company Limited, established in 1956, is a publicly traded mining company which operates underground and open-pit mines.     MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE, SERVICE CONTRACT, RENEWABILITY & SELECTION

    The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, accommodation, meals and a textbook allowance.

    Students will be required to undertake vacation work (for 6 to 8 weeks) during university holidays, and on completion of their studies, may be placed on Palabora Copper’s Graduate Development Programme depending on terms and conditions.
    Bursaries are awarded for 1 year at a time, and can be renewed each year based on satisfactory academic progress.

    Shortlisted applicants will be contacted – if you have not received any feedback by 15 December 2020, please regard your application as unsuccessful. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview and undergo psychometric testing.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    • South African citizen
    • Between 16 and 35 years old
    • Currently in Matric OR have completed Matric
    • Good academic record (bursary will be awarded on academic merit only)
    • Studying or intend on studying within one of the aforementioned fields of study
    • Studying or intend on studying at a recognized University or University of Technology in South Africa
    • NOT in receipt of any other sponsorship/ bursaries
    • Currently unemployed
    • Clear criminal record

    The Scholarship Programme, for the 2022 academic year, will consist of 2 categories:

    MORE ABOUT THE VARSITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE

    The aim of the Scholarship Programme is to provide top quality Private Higher education, to students who may otherwise not be able to afford it.

    The value of the scholarship will be between R30 000 and R50 000 per annum. Both scholarships will cover full-time contact learning, for the minimum duration of the qualification (between 3 and 4 years). Renewal of the award will be based on the student receiving satisfactory academic results each year, and completing the qualification in the minimum time frame.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE VARSITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    Excellence Scholarship:

    • You must be currently in Matric OR have completed Matric (or equivalent)
    • You must have achieved one of the following:
      • minimum overall average of 75% in Grade 11 (or equivalent), if currently in Matric
      • minimum overall average of 75% in Grade 12/ Matric (or equivalent), if completed Matric
      • minimum result of 80% for 4 subjects (excluding Life Orientation)
    • You must intend on studying full-time at a Varsity College campus in 2022

    Achiever Scholarship:

    • You must be a South African citizen
    • You must have achieved one of the following:

    PhD students: R130 000 (per annum for 3 years)

    Bursary recipient may NOT be in receipt of many bursaries that exceed the amount above – if applicants have another bursary of a lower amount amount, SANSA may provide a top-up bursary to the student and not the full bursary amount.

    Bursaries are renewable only if students achieve satisfactory academic results.
