    MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SERVICE CONTRACT

    The partial bursary is available to students from their 2nd year of study onwards, and cover the cost of tuition and registration fees (depending on the bursary budget) to maximum value of R40 000.

    Bursary recipients will be required to take part in vacation work at LegalWise for 5 weeks per year, during the June and December holidays. Once students have graduated, they must complete their in-house service obligation – the duration of the service contract is 6 months of paid service for each year of bursary funding received.

    Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview at their nearest LegalWise Branch.

    The Archive and Public Culture Research Initiative, located at the University of Cape Town’s History Department, was formed in 2009 and is funded by the National Research Foundation. Formed with the aim of tackling critical questions about history, memory, identity and the public sphere in South Africa.

    ABOUT THE UCT ARCHIVE AND PUBLIC CULTURE RESEARCH INITIATIVE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

    The NRF-funded South African Research Chair in Archive and Public Culture, Faculty of Humanities at the University of Cape Town, are inviting postgraduate students to apply for bursary funding, which will cover studies at Honours, Masters, Doctoral and post-Doctoral level.

    Fellowships and bursaries will be awarded in ANY discipline, for students interested in pursuing topics related to the focus of the Chair on interrogation of the intersection and co-production of archive and discourse.

    2 particular areas of interest by the Chair are:
    1) Southern Africa history in the late independent era (including research into ideas, concepts, currents of thought, expertise and praxis that existed in southern African societies in periods around 300 years before colonialism). Students will be expected to partake in innovative theoretical and methodological work, they are also required to be able to work with materials in vernacular languages.
    2) Digital humanities and new epistemologies (with focus on digital opportunities for curatorial experiments in the development of new archives, the digital refiguring of inherited archives and the development of digital humanities materials for presentation in public life).
    Bursaries will be awarded to the following values:

    • Master of Arts studies – full funding to the maximum value of R167 000 per year, for 2 years
    • Master of Arts studies – partial funding to the maximum value of R100 000 per year, for 2 years
    • PhD studies – full funding to the maximum value of R175 000 per year, for 3 years
    • PhD studies – partial funding to the maximum value of R90 000 per year, for 3 years
    • Postdoctoral Fellow – full funding to the maximum value of R200 000 per year (renewable for a 2nd year subject to satisfactory academic performance)

    Keaton Energy is a junior coal mining company in South Africa, whose flagship colliery produce coal for supply to Eskom, as well as metallurgical coal for supply to domestic industrial consumers. In 2017, Keaton Energy Holdings was acquired by Wescoal Holdings Limited, a management and investment company who are involved in coal mining, processing, selling, supplying and distribution.

    Wescoal operates mainly in South Africa and currently operates via 2 major divisions, namely Mining and Trading. The Mining Division is based in Mpumalanga and includes 3 mines, as well as a processing plant.     MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SERVICE CONTRACT

    The bursary award will cover the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, accommodation (or living-out allowance) and a personal allowance (for prescribed books, study materials and pocket money).

    On completion of their studies, bursary recipients will be required to work for KEATON ENERGY (or their nominee) for an equal duration of time as their bursary award.

    The selection process will include the following steps:
    1) The closing date for applications is 4 March 2021.
    2) The initial evaluation stage will take place from 12 to 29 March 2021.
    3) The long list interviews will take place in Cape Town and Johannesburg, from 7 to 23 April 2021.
    4) Final judging of the FirstRand FNB Fund Education Scholarships, will take place in Sandton on 14 May 2021.
    Final judging of the FirstRand Laurie Dippenaar, FirstRand Foundation and FirstRand Oxford African Studies Scholarship will take place in, Sandton on 18 May 2021.

    The Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA), formed in the year 2000, is aimed at positively influencing training and skills development within the construction industry. They are responsible for initiating skills projects and learnerships to develop and improve the human resources within the country, as well as the construction workforce.

    Accredited as an Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA), the CETA’s mission is to develop a strong base of skills as the foundation for economic empowerment and infrastructural development. The construction industry is made up of 4 sub-sectors, including: Materials Manufacturing; Built Environment Professions; Building Construction and Roads and Civil Construction.

    The bursary will provide cover for the following study-related expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, books, accommodation, meals and any other expenses deemed necessary for completing the qualification eg. fieldwork/ research costs/ laboratory costs etc (at the discretion of the CETA). Funded will be be awarded up to a maximum value of R120 000 per student, per year.

    Bursaries are reviewed annually and may be renewed if students academic peformance is satisfactory (as well as any other applicable additional criteria at the discretion of the CETA).

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
