    The Oppenheimer Memorial Trust was founded by the Oppenheimer family, in honour of the late Sir Ernest Oppenheimer. Ernest Oppenheimer controlled De Beers and was a successful successful and diamond entrepreneur, financier and philanthropist who founded the famous Anglo American Corporation.

    The charitable memorial Trust was setup to honor him and to help students with funding their tertiary studies.

    Sir Ernest Oppenheimer has a diamond named in his honour by Harry Winston, known as the “Oppenheimer Diamond”.

    ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & SELECTION

    The Ernest Oppenheimer bursary is specifically for current Matric students who intend on studying Engineering, Geology or Accounting, at a recognised South African tertiary institution in the following year.

    Students will be selected based on academic performance and financial need.

    Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr Inc, a South African law firm, was formed when a merger occured between 2 companies in 2008, namely Cliffe Dekker and Hofmeyr, Herbstein & Gihwala.     Tim Mills was a late director of Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, who sadly passed away in a motor vehicle accident in May 2012.

    In 2013, the Tim Mills Memorial Bursary was founded in memory of the well-respected employment lawyer, to carry on his legacy.

    ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

    Each year, the Tim Mills Memorial Bursary is open to students registering for a LLM degree qualification at a University in South Africa.

    Bursaries are awarded based on 3 factors: academic excellence; financial merit and excellence in another field.

    The bursary will provide coverage for tuition fees, up to a maximum value of R25 000 per student. Students may be required to attend a CDH vacation programme during the course of their studies.

    Both bursary provide cover for 3 years of study at the North West School of Design in Klerksdorp to the value of over R170 000, a sewing machine and overlocker as sponsorship from Bernina SA and an Aspire A13-51 i5 Laptop for use during the 3 year course. The bursary does not provide cover for accommodation, transport and meals.

    Students must complete a minimum of 2 internship programmes each year at Gert Johan Coetzee’s studio.

    The theme for the bursary is Style Tribes: Subcultures.

    The selection process will include the following steps:

    2) Semi-finalists will be required to complete an assignment and submit it by 30 October 2020 (this will include answering questions by Gert-Johan Coetzee in a video: maximum 2 minutes and to be submitted via WETRANSFER to charles@nwsd.co.za).
    3) 10 finalists will be selected to compete for the bursary winners of the competition.
    4) Finalists will be required to buy a viewing ticket for the Platinum Fashion Festival 2020 Digital Event, to be hosted by the North West School of Design. The winner of each bursary will then be announced.

    • Enroll as an associate members of the SARF

    The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), established in the year 1945, is a the premier and central research and development organisation in South Africa.     The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) is committed to encouraging socio-economic development in South Africa, by way of research and innovation. The DSI seeks to accomplish groundbreaking science and ensure well-being of all South Africans, through its various Programmes and entities they work with.

    ABOUT THE DSI-CSIR BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

    The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) are inviting postgraduate students to apply for the DSI-CSIR Inter-Bursary Support (IBS) programme, for the 2022 academic year.

    Inter-Bursary Support (IBS) programme was established by the DSI in order to support capacity development in key and priority areas, as identified in key departmental strategies. The bursary is supported by the CSIR, with the aim of supporting development of skills in these areas.
    Bursaries will be awarded for the following Thematic Research Focus Areas:

    • Aerospace
    • Biotechnology (Biopharming, Bio-processing and Bio-catalysis)
    • Composites
    • Health
    • Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) – (Bioprospecting research, product and process development)
    • Information and Communications Technology
    • Microsystems Technology
    • Modelling and Digital Sciences (data science, biometrics, cybersecurity etc)
    • Photonics (free space communication, fibre-optics, laser welding and optics)
    • Titanium (manufacturing elements)

    The bursary will also cover Honours, 4th year Engineering or Postgraduate Diploma studies in:

    • Biotechnology and related majors
    • Chemistry and Biochemistry
    • Engineering and related majors (Electrical and Computer, Electronic, Metallurgical, Aeronautical Engineering, etc)
    • Epidemiology and Biostatistics
    • Health (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, etc)
    • ICT (Information Systems, Information Technology, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems Management, GIS, etc)
    • IKS (Indigenous Knowledge Systems)
    • Physics
    • Pure Mathematics or Applied Mathematics
    • Statistics or Mathematical Statistics

    MORE ABOUT THE CSIR BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION

    The bursary value will be determined by the level of study:

    • Honours, 4th year Engineering and Postgraduate Diploma students will receive cover up to R100 000 per annum.
    • Masters students will receive cover up to R120 000 per annum.
    • Doctoral students will receive cover up to R140 000 per annum.

    All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application within 2 months of the closing date (ie no later than 31 October 2021).

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DSI-CSIR BURSARY

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    • You must be a South African citizen OR a South African permanent resident
    • You must be studying or intend on studying full-time towards one of the aforementioned postgraduate qualifications
    • You must be studying or intend on studying towards a degrees that is aligned to specific thematic research areas and research themes/ technology streams
    • You must be studying at a public university in South Africa
    • You must NOT be employed on a full-time basis
    • Preference will be given to students with disabilities and students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds

LegalWise provides assistance for criminal, civil and labour related cases, giving people access to their basic rights according to the law.

    The company offers 3 membership options (Gold, GoldPlus and Platinum), each providing a maximum coverage for legal cases. LegalWise currently employs between 500 and 1000 staff members across their 80 branches.

    ABOUT THE LEGALWISE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

    LegalWise are inviting Members or children of Members, to apply for their bursary programme for the 2022 academic year. The LegalWise Member Bursary Programme aims to assist students, both financially and with mentorship support, and thereby enable them to further their studies in fields which LegalWise has a need to recruit.

    Bursaries will be awarded to students currently pursuing studies towards any of the following degree qualifications:

    • BA (Law)
    • BCom (Law)
    • LLB
    • BCom (Accounting)
    • BCom (Human Resource Management)
    • BCom (Industrial Psychology)

    MORE ABOUT THE LEGALWISE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION

    The bursary will provide partial cover for study-related expenses, including the following: annual registration fees and tuition fees (capped at R40 000 per year). The bursary will NOT cover any outstanding student debt or failed subjects.

    MORE ABOUT THE LEGALWISE BURSARY PROGRAMME – RENEWAL & OBLIGATIONS

    Bursaries are awarded based on academic performance throughout the year and submitting results and accounts to the Bursary Administrator on time.

    Bursaries are renewable each year based on 3 factors: compliance with Bursary Agreement T&C’s, satisfactory academic performance, and completion of vacation work.

    Bursary recipients will be required to complete their studies within the minimum allocated number of years, as specified by the University.

    Bursary recipients will be required to take part in paid vacation work at Legal Wise Branch close to them, for 5 weeks per year (2 weeks during the June/ July holidays and 3 weeks during the December holidays).

    Students who are studying towards one of the BCom degrees (in Accounting, Human Resource Management, Industrial Psychology or Management), will be required to take part in paid vacation work and service obligations at the LegalWise Roodepoort branch. Students will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation if they are not residing in the area.

    Once students have graduated, they must complete their in-house service obligation – the duration of the service contract is 6 months of paid service for each year of bursary funding received.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE LEGALWISE BURSARY

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    • You must be a LegalWise Member OR a child of a LegalWise Member (biological, adopted or under legal guardianship)
    • The LegalWise Member must be fully paid up for a minimum of 2 years before application and must remain a Member for the entire duration of the bursary
    • You must have completed Matric
    • You must be studying full-time towards one of the aforementioned degree qualifications (part-time, distance or correspondence students will NOT be funded)
    • You must be in your 1st or later year of study (1st year students will NOT be funded)
    • You must be registered and studying at one of the following tertiary institutes:
