New Coaches And Players Spotted At Kaizer Chiefs Village

    0
A number of fresh faces have been spotted at Kaizer Chiefs Village.

Nasreddine Nabi has been out of action after undergoing surgery, allowing assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze to take the reins.

“In the Head Coach’s absence, assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze will take charge of the team to face the Golden Arrows in this weekend’s Home of Legends Cup,” Kaizer Chiefs official website confirmed.

    Academy players given a chance

Kaizer Chiefs have no shortage of young talent – Wandile Duba and Mduduzi Shabalala – which is both a blessing and curse; perfect for injecting energy into the game, but the lack of experience tends to show in tail-end of games.

DDC Young Stars Xolani Cossa and Ofentse Kgosana have been seen training with the first team during Nabi’s absence – in fact, both featured (but did not play) on the Chiefs bench for their opening game of the season against Golden Arrows.

    Transfer targets

The Glamour Boys have remained vocal in the transfer market, following seven signings during the offseason.

PSL veteran Bongani Zungu is one of Kaizer Chiefs top targets as they look to replace the injured Edson Castillo.

“It’s true there has been interest in Bongani Zungu by Kaizer Chiefs, but there be a lot that has to change at Chiefs for them to then actually sign Zungu,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

“They are first looking at loaning out some players in that position like Sibongiseni “Ox” Mthethwa or Samkelo Zwane and then if something happens in that respect, then the club will be able to sign Zungu.

“So, at the moment, it all depends on if Kaizer Chiefs can create space that can accommodate the signing of a new midfielder like Zungu. So, as much as they are interested in Zungu because of his experience, they are looking at how that could happen if they are to go ahead with signing Zungu.”

Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul Analysis and Updates

    0

Here has been plenty of chatter and analysis about who has the advantage in for Friday’s fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.

There is no question Tyson holds the experience edge.

He turned pro at 18, is a former heavyweight champion and is known for his debilitating blows.

Now, he is returning to the ring at 58 for his first sanctioned bout since 2005.

Paul has not been boxing long and while his record is solid, some critics say he has not been challenged.

    Start time

The fight will stream live globally, exclusively on Netflix on Friday, 15 November from the 80 000-seat capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

According to Netflix, the event is scheduled to begin at 20:00 (Eastern Time) / 03:00 (SA time on Saturday, 16 November) and “will be available to stream live globally on all Netflix plans, at no additional cost to subscribers.”

The Paul vs Tyson bout is one of four boxing matches on the main card.

Viewers will get the following matches in order:

Neeraj Goyat vs Whindersson Nunes (six 3-minute rounds)

Mario Barrios vs Abel Ramos (for the WBC welterweight world title, which will be 12, 3-minute rounds).

The third fight on the card will be a rematch between Katie Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs) and unified featherweight world champion Amanda Serrano (47-2-1, 31 KOs) for the undisputed super lightweight world title.

The Taylor vs Serrano match is set for 10 two-minute rounds.

The last fight on the main card is Paul and Tyson’s match, which is set for eight 2-minute rounds.

It’s likely to start closer to 06:00 (SA time).

The streamer noted that the event will also “feature live commentary in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French and German.”

    Tale of the tape

A scrum of security swiftly intervened to separate the two fighters following the incident before Tyson was ushered away.

    ‘Talking’s over’

Mike Tyson, who weighed in at 228.4 pounds after stepping onto the scales wearing only a pair of Versace briefs, barely spoke before leaving the stage.

“Talking’s over,” Tyson said before making his exit with members of his entourage.

Paul, the 27-year-old Youtuber-turned-boxer, insisted he had not been hurt by Tyson’s open-handed slap, which drew gasps from the audience.

“I didn’t even feel it – he’s angry. He’s an angry little elf… cute slap buddy,” said Paul, who weighed in at 227.2 pounds.

Paul concluded his remarks with an expletive-laden pledge to knock Tyson out, before roaring theatrically into a microphone: “He must die.”

Tyson is reportedly being paid $20 million for Friday’s officially sanctioned bout in Texas, which will be comprised of eight two-minute rounds.

The contest, being streamed live on Netflix, has divided opinion across the boxing world, with many prominent figures decrying the prospect of Tyson lacing up his gloves nearly 40 years after his professional debut and 19 years after his last officially sanctioned fight.

Kaizer Chiefs Transfer News: Zungu and Tau

    0

There is plenty of excitement around Bongani Zungu and Percy Tau’s purported moves to Kaizer Chiefs.

Kaizer Chiefs are linked with some big-name states with the January PSL transfer window approaching.

Namely, former Sundowns man, Zungu and Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau. Ironically, the Al Ahly star is also a former Sundowns player. Here is the latest on both transfer rumours.

CHIEFS ONE STEP CLOSER TO ZUNGU MOVE

Chiefs are considering making an offer for Zungu.

This is based on a very specific condition – that they clear out one or two midfielders. Specifically, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Samkelo Zwane.

“It’s true there has been interest in Bongani Zungu by Chiefs, but there be a lot that has to change at Chiefs for them to then actually sign Zungu,” a source told SoccerLaduma.

“They are first looking at loaning out some players in that position like Sibongiseni “Ox” Mthethwa or Samkelo Zwane and then if something happens in that respect, then the club will be able to sign Zungu,” he added

“So, at the moment, it all depends on if Chiefs can create space that can accommodate the signing of a new midfielder like Zungu. So, as much as they are interested in Zungu because of his experience, they are looking at how that could happen if they are to go ahead with signing Zungu,” the insider concluded.

Interestingly, Chiefs have decided to part ways with their R11 MILLION midfielder. So, in theory, they are one step closer to signing Zungu based on the above statements.

GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY FOR AMAKHOSI TO SIGN TAU

Tau has been linked with a sensational return to the PSL with Chiefs and Sundowns both linked.

Meaning, it appears that the Bafana Bafana man may finally leave the Egyptian giants, Al Ahly. However, neither the Red Devils have confirmed contact or interest from either party.

However, a couple of key factors make this move very possible and even plausible. Firstly, as mentioned, Tau has been linked with a return to SA. Meanwhile, Chiefs are in the market for a clinical attacker. Finally, Nabi has made it clear that Tau needs to find a new club in order return to the Bafana Bafana setup.

In Race For Bafana Star, Orlando Pirates Poised To Beat Sundowns

    0

Pirates are closing in on a major transfer target and could outmanoeuvre Sundowns to sign Stellenbosch midfielder Jayden Adams. Sources reveal that Pirates are working hard to secure the 23-year-old talent, who has caught the eye of several top South African teams.

According to Soccer Laduma, Pirates are prepared to sweeten the deal with a combination of cash and player exchanges, which could give them the upper hand over Sundowns in the transfer race.

A reliable source shared that Orlando Pirates have already tabled an offer that includes a significant cash sum alongside Goodman Mosele in exchange for Adams. “At the moment, the way things stand, Pirates are in a much better position to sign Jayden (Adams). They have offered Stellenbosch FC money plus Goodman Mosele for that deal to go through,” the source revealed. The source also emphasised that while it’s early in the process, Pirates believe they can seal the deal in the next January transfer window.

The move comes as Pirates aim to strengthen their squad by adding a talented Bafana Bafana midfielder, and insiders suggest that the Buccaneers could outpace Mamelodi Sundowns in securing Adams’ signature.

Van Rooyen’s influence could play a key role

The close relationship between Deano Van Rooyen and Jayden Adams could be another factor influencing the midfielder’s potential move to Orlando Pirates. “It’s believed that Van Rooyen has been talking to Jayden (Adams) and telling him about life at Pirates. They are very close, and that could also influence the move,” another source said. If Van Rooyen’s influence plays out, it could tip the scale in Pirates’ favour, especially as both players are familiar with each other from previous stints.

Downs’ multiple offers for Adams rejected by Stellies

While Mamelodi Sundowns remain firmly in the race, they face stiff competition from Pirates. Sundowns had a tumultuous pursuit of Adams in the last transfer window, where they launched multiple bids. Sundowns reportedly made a R25 million offer, but Stellenbosch FC rejected it, with the club holding out for a higher price, rumoured to be close to R40 million.

A source close to the negotiations revealed exclusively, “On the final day, Stellenbosch rejected R25 million for Jayden Adams from Mamelodi Sundowns. Rob Benadie wanted something closer to R40 million, but Sundowns said Stellies were asking too much.”

Pirates Boss Irvin Khoza Presents Chiefs Chairman With R2 Million

Orlando Pirates Irvin Khoza has given Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung a R2m gift for his contribution to the development of football in South Africa.

Motaung and Khoza were instrumental in the formation of the Premier Soccer League in 1996 which succeeded the National Soccer League. The two men have shared a close friendship over the years elevating their respective clubs to new levels in the past decades.

“[Motaung’s] investment in the formation of the PSL was much higher,” said Irvin Khoza as per Sowetan Live.

“Brother K, thank you for your dependability. Before I call you on the podium, I have never done this before in the committee, but you have worked for SA football,” Khoza said.

“So, I would like to ask the members of the Exco [executive committee] to grant me permission to grant Dr Motaung R2m to spoil himself,” the Buccaneers boss added.

    Irvin Khoza spoils Kaizer Motaung

“Dr Kaizer Motaung has worked hard for himself. I know the pain and agony you went through to build an institution like Kaizer Chiefs and the NSL. May God bless you.”

The same Wednesday, Irvin Khoza was re-elected as chair of the PSL for a sixth term during the organisation’s quadrennial general meeting in Johannesburg. The 74-year-old stood unopposed for his position.

Mofokeng Told To Leave Pirates | Kaizer Chiefs Target Top Talent

    0

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs appear active heading into the January transfer window.

Both have enjoyed brilliant starts to the season, scoring with ease and challenging the reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns early in the season.

However, squad depth is everything when teams head into the final-third of the campaign, players become more prone to injuries, meaning without a strong bench like the Brazilians have, a team’s season can unravel in a matter of games – consistency is key.

    Mofokeng advised to leave

Former coach and mentor to Relebohile Mofokeng, Mandla Qhogi, told SoccerLaduma, “For me, it will be a good time for him to go overseas. It is the right time and there are things that he would learn if he were to move now at this stage of his career. The more we keep him this side it could mean that we are delaying him. He is 20, and I think it is the right time for him to move if he has to be sold overseas,

“What stands out about him for me is his individual intelligence and game awareness. He knows when to dribble an opponent, and when to pass the ball. He is also very brave when it comes to facing a challenging situation on the field, and he always knows what to do; he’s not afraid of any opponent, irrespective of the size of the body. With his small body structure, he knows how to deal with bigger and physically strong opponents. I have seen him dominating in 1V1 situations with opponents like that. His cleverness in knowing when to take a surprise shot at the goalkeeper and other qualities are some of the things we saw in him and liked”.

    Kaizer Chiefs summer wish list

The January transfer window is fast approaching and Kaizer Chiefs have wasted no time in their pursuit of more talent, even after signing seven players in the winter window.

Following the acquisitions of defenders Inacio Miguel and Bradley Cross, it seems they are hoping to sign some attackers this summer having been linked with Michael Obunga, Asanele Velebayi and Oswin Appollis.

South Africa’s Danie “Pitbull” van Heerden competed in the super heavyweight division at Power Slap 9 which took place on Thursday, 24 October at the Space42 Arena in Abu Dhabi.

Van Heerden, who is ranked third in the world, took on seventh-ranked American Eviahn “The Waterboy” Scott over three rounds.

Van Heerden defeated Scott by disqualification (striker fouls) in Round 2.

Meanwhile, Power Slap Super Heavyweight champion, Da Crazy Hawaiian, defended his crown against No 1-ranked super heavyweight, Vasilii “Dumpling” Kamotskii after the match ended in a majority draw.

In the co-main event, a new middleweight king was crowned as Isaih “Pretty Boy” Quinones knocked out John “The Machine” Davis in the third round.

Power Slap 9: Da Crazy Hawaiian vs Dumpling | Thursday October 24th at 12pm ET/9am PT

Power Slap, which was founded in 2022, is an American slap fighting promotion company owned by Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) chief executive officer Dana White.

Meanwhile, as reported by The South African website, Van Heerden lost his title fight at Power Slap 8 in late June this year.

Van Heerden took on champion “Da Crazy Hawaiian” Layne Viernes for the super heavyweight belt, but lost their five-round fight via unanimous decision in June.

Van Heerden, who fights out of Pretoria, stands 6-foot-3 and weighs in at 265 pounds (120kg).

Power Slap 8 was held Fontainebleau Las Vegas in ‘Sin City’.

Van Heerden has a boxing and MMA background, including time spent in the EFC. His MMA record reads 23 fights, 15 wins and eight defeats.

    Power Slap rules

Power Slap, which has been licensed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, uses rules similar to those established by other slap fighting leagues.

After a coin toss to decide who goes first, the first striker has a time limit of 60 seconds to deliver an open-handed slap to the opponent.

Slaps must be below the eye but above the chin, without leading with the palm such that all hand to face contact takes place at the same time.

Those being slapped may not flinch, raise their shoulder or tuck in their chins.

After being slapped, the slapped competitor then has 60 seconds to recover and get back into position before it’s their turn to slap.

Fights which don’t end in a knock out and go three rounds go to the judges’ decision, using a 10-point system with judging based on slap strikers’ effectiveness as well as the slap receivers’ reaction and recovery time.

    Danie van Heerden Q&A

When and why did you start training to be a Slap Fighter? May 2022 was the first Slap Fight in South Africa (SASFA). I got hooked, as I love competition, and this is not for the faint-hearted

What does fighting in Power Slap mean for you and your career? This is sports on a world-class platform and you’re never too old or heavy for anything. I want to prove to myself that whatever I put my mind to, I can and will come out on top

What are your ultimate goals in fighting? Becoming the champ and to be a household name and role model to youngsters

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done? I wanted to commit suicide

What’s the best thing you’ve ever done? Not giving up in that dark time

Is there anyone you’d like to slap fight against? I would love to slap Logan Paul – easy win

Occupation/past occupation(s): Self-employed (appliance repair company), private security protection

Benni McCarthy Hints At Next Destination

    0

Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy is a free agent following a two-year stint at Manchester United.

The Champions League winner has enjoyed success in the PSL before with AmaZulu, finishing second, qualifying them for the CAF Champions League – the first time in the club’s history.

But it seems McCarthy has his heart set on coaching overseas, with the MLS interesting him.

    MLS inbound?

In a lengthy conversation On The Whistle Podcast, the former Premier League striker confirmed America’s lure, saying, “What next for me? I think it’s clear that after leaving United, I think that passion for wanting to be a head coach again that brew through,” he said told the

“I think that is the next step for me. Whether it’s to go back to Africa, the African continent to manage one of the big team, the important teams with the knowledge that I’ve gained from working at a team like Manchester United on a global scale, which is up there with Real Madrid, the best teams in the world.

“When you’ve been there, gained those type of experiences, you want to go back [to a top club]. If you do go back to the continent, that would be amazing, to manage a team on the continent and trying to make them also one of the power houses in African football but to also try and achieve to reach a final when you play in the Club World Cup – that would be the aim to do that.

“Or even the MLS interests me a lot. Bradley Carnell did exceptionally well in his first season with St. Louis, I don’t [know] where it went wrong after that.

“But Bradley has gone out there and shown himself what he’s capable of doing. And opportunities like that, I would welcome. Because I think I’ve got what it takes to manage there, to make players better and to help teams achieve goals they maybe have not achieved in the last few years.

“It’s just about getting the opportunity.”

Any club would be lucky to have you, we can’t wait to see you back on the sideline.

URC live scoring: Stormers v Glasgow Warriors

    0

With the URC about to head into an international break after this weekend, the Stormers will look to inflict further damage on the Glasgow Warriors following the Scots’ 28-24 defeat against the Sharks last weekend, while also hoping to leapfrog into the top eight on the table.

Match information: Stormers v Glasgow Warriors
    Date: Saturday, 26 October
    Venue: Danie Craven Stadium, Stellenbosch
    SA Time: 13h45
    Referee: Andrew Brace
    TV: SuperSport

The Stormers will draw inspiration from their defensive statistics, in particular, which shows only two more points conceded in their four games to Glasgow’s five even though the visitors hold a nine-point lead on the log, which will be handy against the best attacking team in the competition.

History, however, favours the Glasgow Warriors who have won three of the four previous outings between the sides, with the Stormers’ only victory being 32-7 at DHL Stadium in April 2022.

Director of Rugby John Dobson said that his team is focused on backing up their performance against Munster at DHL Stadium last week.

“Glasgow are the defending champions, so we will have to raise our game further if we are to get the win we need.

“We are thrilled for Andre-Hugo to reach this milestone at such a young age and we look forward to even bigger things from him in the years to come.

“It is fantastic to have the likes of Frans and Manie back in the mix and we expect them to make a real impact on Saturday,” he said.
