Kaizer Motaung Jr. Addressed Transfer News – Oswin Appollis

    0

Chiefs’ sporting director, Motaung Jr., recently tackled a wave of transfer rumours concerning five players. He provided crucial updates on the futures of Oswin Appollis, Itumeleng Khune, Riaan Hanamub, Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa, and Fawaaz Basadien, clarifying the club’s positions and intentions.

IRegarding Itumeleng Khune, Motaung Jr. clarified that the club has offered the veteran goalkeeper a non-playing role. “We, as a club, would never say anyone should retire,” he stated. The club is proposing a position in marketing and ambassadorship, similar to roles held by international players like Dwight Yorke. Jessica Motaung, the club’s marketing director, explained that while Khune remains eager to play, the club values his potential contributions off the field.

Riaan Hanamub’s decision: Extends contract with AmaZulu

Motaung Jr. also addressed the speculation around Riaan Hanamub, confirming that the Namibian international will remain with AmaZulu FC after choosing to extend his contract. “He’s done tremendously well; I don’t think we’re the only club that looked at him,” Motaung Jr. noted, adding that other clubs, including Orlando Pirates, were interested in Hanamub.

Fawaaz Basadien: Transfer blocked by high price

Motaung Jr. acknowledged interest in Stellenbosch FC’s Fawaaz Basadien but revealed that the high asking price and Stellenbosch’s need to retain key players prevented a deal. “It’s not a secret. He made the price that he had on Fawaaz very clear,” Motaung Jr. said. He highlighted that clubs often want to keep their top players, especially after losing others.

Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa: Integral to Chiefs’ plans

Motaung Jr. reassured fans about Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa’s status, despite rumours linking him to a departure. “Ox is a big part of the plans. He’s had a good preseason,” Motaung Jr. affirmed, emphasising Mthethwa’s importance to the team.

Chiefs’ continued pursuit of Oswin Appollis: Talks ongoing

Motaung Jr. confirmed Kaizer Chiefs’ strong interest in Polokwane City FC’s winger Oswin Appollis, who is at the top of their transfer wish list as the window nears its end. With just eight days left before the deadline, Motaung Jr. stated, “We’ve said it before that we would love to have him,” and revealed that discussions with Polokwane City’s chairman are ongoing. Appollis, who scored seven goals last season, has been impressive in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, including a standout performance against South Sudan.
