Apart from a shock elimination in the Telkom Cup at the hands of newcomers Magesi FC, the Sea Robbers have enjoyed one of their best starts to the season, winning the MTN8 Cup and netting eight goals in four league games.

Jose Riveiro’s side face last-placed AmaZulu on October 25.

    Orlando Pirates’ January transfer targets

Chippa United’s Sinxolo Kwayiba and Cape Winelands centre-back Thabo Moloisane have caught the eye of Buccaneers management with impressive cameos in their opening games of the season.

Attacking midfielder Kwayiba, 24, has been the integral spark for his side, earning him a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad.

According to SoccerLaduma, the Soweto Giants are favourites to land the Gqeberha native, reporting that “Pirates are the ones who have moved faster in trying to acquire the services of Sinoxolo (Kwayiba). The technical team has been impressed so far with what they have seen from the player and that’s why they want to involve a player exchange to influence the deal. It could be money plus players involved. But what I can tell you is that Pirates are in the forefront to get him.”

Moloisane, 25, also looks like likely to join Orlando Pirates: “The club is working hard to find at least a central defender to be backup or cover in case of injuries and suspensions. The team feels that with injuries in central defense, they need a player like Thabo Moloisane and now that’s why they have reignited their interest in him again. Obviously, for now, that could only happen in January. But, yet, the interest has always been there and now it’s just a revisit of that interest,” the SoccurLaduma source said.

    Honest assessment from Sundowns’ manager

Orlando Pirates strong start to the season doesn’t seem to be worrying Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi who told FARPost, “I think I said it from the beginning in the launch that for me they are the team that’s going to be really pushing us.

“But I still maintain that they are a team that doesn’t do well against small teams. So far, they have really done well but let’s continue and see because that’s where I think maybe the championship will be decided.”

KAIZER CHIEFS TARGET OSWIN APPOLLIS IN DEMAND

According to the latest reports, Amakhosi are not the only admirers of the 23-year-old winger. Europe and the continent are also interested in Appollis.

“Chiefs are professional in the way they deal with transfers and they will go through the right channels again when the window opens again but other clubs have shown interest in Ossie as well,” a source told the Citizen.

“I can’t tell you which club in Europe wants him because it’s still too early to say but it’s not only in Africa where he’s in demand. At the end of the day, Polokwane City will have the final say because he has a contract with them,” the source added on the Kaizer Chiefs target.

Predicted Orlando Pirates XI vs AmaZulu

    0

High-flying Orlando Pirates tackle rock-bottom AmaZulu on Friday night looking to preserve their perfect start to the Betway Premiership season.

Predicted Orlando Pirates XI vs AmaZulu

Games are already rolling around frequently which means we could see some rotation by coach Jose Riveiro. Pirates dispatched SuperSport on Tuesday so some fresh legs could come into the side. Pirates are flying high with four wins from four while AmaZulu are rooted to the foot of the table with three defeats from three. Here’s how the Sea Robbers could line up with potential for a few attack-minded changes:

Chaine; Van Rooyen, Sesane, Sibisi, Maela; Dlamini, Mbatha; Nkota, Maswanganyi, Mofokeng; Mabasa.

Kickoff at Orlando Stadium is at 19:30 on Friday 25 October.

Bucs starting XI which beat SuperSport

Chaine; Van Rooyen, Sesane, Sibisi, Hotto; Makhaula, Mbatha; Nkota, Maswanganyi, Mofokeng; Makgopa.

Subs used: Dlamini, Mabasa, Maela, Rasebotja.

    Nkota to keep his place?

Teenage winger Mohau Nkota produced an impressive substitute cameo in Pirates’ 3-2 defeat to Magesi in the Carling Knockout. That earned him a start and full Betway premiership debut in the Buccaneers’ 2-0 win over SuperSport. He played 65 minutes in the workmanlike success and manager Riveiro likes what he sees. Pirates now have four wins from four and sit at the summit of the league table as they embark on a quest to wrestle the title from Sundowns.

“It’s just the beginning for him,” he told SuperSport TV via iDiski Times.

Mabasa or Makgopa? A nice dilemma for Coach Riveiro to have

Although Tshegofatso Mabasa was the undisputed starting striker for Pirates last term, after all, he scored 16 league goals and bagged the Golden Boot, Makgopa is now the man entrusted with the role. He started the MTN8 final earlier in October and Mabasa came off the bench to score. Makgopa also scored in the Nedbank Cup final in June. At some stage, Jose Riveiro will need to do some serious man-management and juggling with this situation.

Orlando Pirates star called mother in tears

    0

Orlando Pirates have had a defensive star in Thabiso Sesane since last season. The 24-year-old did not have an easy rise.

    TWO LOAN SPELLS

After shining in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) reserve league before, Sesane was promoted to the first team in 2020/21. He was soon loaned out from Orlando Pirates to Jomo Cosmos and later All Stars in the lower divisions.

“[2021/22] Pre-season in North West, I think I got injured, so when we got to Johannesburg, I got a call from the office. They told me, ‘We’re loaning you out because we don’t think your space is available this season,” Sesane told PiratesTV on BucsCamp.

“I was shocked, I said, ‘Its fine’, then they said, ‘Its Jomo Cosmos’. It was tough though [at Cosmos], I won’t lie, I was always crying. I was calling my mother and telling her I was thinking of leaving this whole thing [playing football].

“To be honest, when I left Jomo Cosmos [at the end of the season], I felt I had already given up. I felt like a loan player, I think I played 15 games at Cosmos,” Sesane added.

    ORLANDO PIRATES INJURY NEWS

Orlando Pirates are in action this weekend against Magesi FC in the Carling Knockout. The game will kick off at 15:00 from the Orlando Stadium.

According to the club’s latest post, the Sea Robbers will be without the likes of Olisa Ndah, Tapelo Xoki, Zakhele Lepasa and Bandile Shandu.

    Full Statement by the club:

“Orlando Pirates will play host to newly promoted club Magesi FC at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday in their Carling Black Label Cup opener. Unfortunately, the Buccaneers will be without key defender Olisa Ndah, who faces an extended period on the sidelines.

“The Nigerian international who missed out on playing the MTN8 final after suffering an injury in the league match against Polokwane City, is expected to be out on the sidelines for a lengthy spell. The Bucs medical department has confirmed that the 26-year-old has suffered a tibia fracture. Due to the location and nature of the injury; the decision on surgery is not straightforward but based on this type of injury, Ndah has been ruled out for the rest of the year.

In addition to Ndah’s injury, the medical department provided updates on other players in recovery:

    Thalente Mbatha

“Continues to undergo rehabilitation regarding the injury he suffered in Pirates 3-1 win over Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8. The Bucs medical team will continue to monitor his progress this week before clearing him to return to full training.

    Bandile Shandu

“Has started full training with the team. He has also begun playing 35 minutes for friendly matches. This load will increase every week until he reaches 90 minutes without feeling any discomfort.

    Tapelo Xoki

“Has been cleared to return to full training , with focus on agility drills before being allowed to participate in friendly matches.

    Goodman Mosele

“Is currently undergoing intermediate rehabilitation phase. He has started jogging and the team has slowly introduced heavy loaded weight training.

    Zakhele Lepasa

“Like Mosele, Lepasa is also currently undergoing intermediate rehabilitation phase. He has started running on the field and strength training.

    Thabiso Lebitso

“Has started running as part of his progression. Scheduled to start plyometric training as of next week.
Continues with external biokinetic training to improve strength in hamstring and quadriceps.

    Sandile Mthethwa

“Sustained an abdominal muscle strain during training. He is attending rehabilitation sessions with a visceral therapist that deals with this type of injuries.

    Ethan Visagie

“Sustained a right ankle sprain during training. Post orthopaedic consultation; conservative treatment was suggested as strategy for his recovery,” Orlando Pirates concluded.

Kaizer Chiefs Stars In limbo | What lies Ahead For The Duo

    0

Kaizer Chiefs stars in limbo, but what will happen to the pair? Let’s delve in.

The future of Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe hangs in the balance as he struggles to secure a starting spot at the club. Despite showcasing his talent with the Botswana national team, Ditlhokwe finds himself on the sidelines more often than not. His most recent appearance came as a substitute in the 4-0 victory against SuperSport United during the Carling Knockout, highlighting his ongoing battle for game time.

Insiders reveal that Ditlhokwe ranks as the fourth-choice central defender at Chiefs, trailing behind Inacio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley, and Given Msimango. Other defenders, like Zitha Kwinika, have even less chance of making an impact. “The coach has made it clear that Rushwin Dortley and Inacio Miguel are his preferred partners in the central defence.” This statement underscores the uphill battle Ditlhokwe faces to break into the starting lineup.

    Possible January move for Ditlhokwe?

With the January transfer window approaching, Ditlhokwe’s representatives are exploring options for a loan move. This strategy could allow him to gain essential playing time and stay fit for Botswana, especially with the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on the horizon. The insider noted, “For now, they are looking at a loan move… it will be hard for him to play regularly this season at Chiefs.”

Last season, Ditlhokwe struggled with a long-term injury but managed to contribute whenever fit. This season, however, he has yet to see any action, making the prospect of a loan increasingly appealing.

George Matlou: Fight for a contract extension

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou faces his own challenges as he aims to secure a new contract. After recovering from an injury that sidelined him for a significant period, Matlou must impress management to extend his stay at the club. His current deal runs until June 2025, but he needs consistent performances to justify a contract renewal.

Matlou faces stiff competition in the midfield, contending with established players like Yusuf Maart, Samkelo Zwane, and Edson Castillo, all of whom have had the advantage of pre-season preparations and match fitness. “Matlou could get an opportunity to feature in the matchday squad in the coming weeks,” sources indicate, emphasising the importance of seizing any chance he gets.

    The pressure to perform

Matlou’s situation remains precarious as he looks to regain his place in the squad. He made ten appearances in all competitions last season, and with the January transfer window looming, he becomes eligible to sign a pre-contract with another club. However, insiders confirm that Kaizer Chiefs will have first dibs on his future before he considers other options.

URC live scoring: Sharks v Munster

    0

There will be a big focus on the performance of the Sharks, and of course Siya Kolisi, as the Durban-based side host Irish side Munster in a crucial URC clash on Saturday at Kings Park.

    Kick off is at 16:00.

Sharks: 15 Aphelele Fassi, 14 Eduan Keyter, 13 Lukhanyo Am, 12 Andre Esterhuizen, 11 Makazole Mapimpi, 10 Jordan Hendrikse, 9 Grant Williams, 8 Siya Kolisi, 7 Vincent Tshituka, 6 James Venter, 5 Emile van Heerden, 4 Eben Etzebeth (captain), 3 Vincent Koch, 2 Bongi Mbonambi, 1 Ox Nche.
Replacements: 16 Fez Mbatha, 17 Ntuthuko Mchunu, 18 Ruan Dreyer, 19 Jason Jenkins, 20 Phepsi Buthelezi, 21 Jaden Hendrikse, 22 Siya Masuku, 23 Francois Venter.

Read Also: URC live scoring: Stormers v Glasgow Warriors

With Sharks coach John Plumtree naming a new-look loose trio, with Kolisi moving to the back of the scrum and James Venter and Vincent Tshituka slotting in on the flank, he explained his thinking for this URC encounter.

“I think he (Kolisi) is really looking forward to playing No.8 because it’s a position he played a lot in his earlier days for the Stormers and it’s a position I’m keen to see how he goes in.

“I don’t see it as a gamble, I see it more as an opportunity for him to run with the ball and we know he loves that. I reckon it will be good to see how he goes in that position.”

The clash between the Sharks and Munster could prove to be a humdinger given the fact that only one point separates the sides on the standings and with both teams having registered only two victories so far this season. However, the Durbanites do have a game in hand after the domestic teams’ round-one fixtures were postponed.

The Sharks showed encouraging form from the beginning of the season with a six-point defeat against Connacht away in their opening game before defeating the Dragons in Newport, and after a glitch against Benetton in their final tour game, they bounced back strongly to defeat the Glasgow Warriors.

The KwaZulu-Natalians will undoubtedly look to build on this against Munster, who currently find themselves in a dip after losing their last two matches against Leinster and the Stormers respectively.

Spicing up the clash, the teams are closely matched on attack and defence with Munster holding only a 21-point lead in terms of terms of points scored in their five matches to the Sharks’ four, while the Irish outfit have conceded seven points more, which will undoubtedly set the scene for a humdinger of a clash.

The two sides have met three times before in the URC, with Munster winning two to add to a 22-22 draw on their only previous visit to Durban in April 2023.

    Date: Saturday, October 26
    Venue: Kings Park, Durban
    Kick-off: 16.00 (15.00 UK & Ireland time; 14.00 GMT)
    Referee: Hollie Davidson (Scotland)
Assistant referees: AJ Jacobs (South Africa), Stephan Geldenhuys (South Africa)

How Sports Betting Apps Are Changing the Game for South African Bettors

    0

The sports betting landscape in South Africa is undergoing a remarkable transformation, driven by technology and changing consumer habits. From bookmaker shops and paper slips, it all moved to a new era of digital convenience.

Sports betting applications have proved a game changer for South African bettors by making betting even more easily accessible, user-friendly, and engaging. These new applications are providing unique features that are reimagining how the betting industry works in South Africa, taking the experience for millions of fans to another level.

A New Level of Convenience for Bettors

Convenience is among the drivers of innovation in betting, and sports betting applications have just set the bar to perfection. It is now a thing of the past when one was forced to move from their homes to shop locations or use huge desktop websites to place bets.

Today, with just a simple smartphone in the pocket and an internet connection, a punter can easily stake on his favorite teams at any time and wherever he wishes. With this ease of access, thousands of South Africans have taken up the adventure into sports betting without hustle.

For instance, the Hollywoodbets mobile application, full guide here: https://www.telecomasia.net/za/sports-betting/reviews/hollywoodbets/mobile-app/,  has become a modern solution for the needs of any bettor due to its ease and functionality.

The South African bettor will be able to easily navigate the markets, set bets, and keep himself updated about what is happening with a live score-all from his phone with just one stroke of his finger. Applications such as this set new bars for user experiences, making betting more straightforward and fun.

Increased User Experience and Interactive Features

Sports wagering applications are designed to offer convenience, but a lot more in terms of engrossing features that further enhance the user experience. An example could be in-play betting, where during a game, the consumer can place bets-a dynamic twist that makes sports viewing far more thrilling. A bettor can take advantage of the fluctuating odds during an event and add even more excitement to his wagering adventure.

Besides in-play options, such apps also offer live updates of matches and statistics, with real-time notifications of activity. Interactive features include cash-out options, allowing users to take home some gain or cut losses before the match is over, giving users even more control over the bets they make. Exclusive mobile-only promotions and loyalty rewards also encourage bettors to use such apps, enhancing their usage of these apps.

Variety and Customization for Every Bettor

Another great benefit of the apps for sports bettors is the variety they introduce into the types of bets one can make. Where most bets were confined to a standard market, these apps have opened the field to include a wide range of games, sports, and bet types: from football to rugby, cricket, and even esports, options are endless.

Another popular feature includes personalization. Bettors can customize their experience by marking favorite teams and sports, and set notifications for easier betting. Further, apps offer tracking features that let bettors review past activity and performance. This will enable users to make informed decisions that will lead them to better success.

Access to Expert Insights and Data

With great power comes great knowledge, and modern-day applications create even more power for the bettor with expert views, analytics, and data-driven predictions. Users can go through match previews, get tips from professionals, and explore detailed statistics-all on their smartphones.

Because of this access to in-depth information, South African punters’ betting experience is much more effective-to seasoned punters and novices alike. The data-driven approach has ensured that instead of betting based on intuition, bets can be placed based on facts that should improve potential returns on investments.

Supporting the South African Betting Economy

Sports betting applications bring a lot of contribution to the economy of South Africa. Because more and more people could access mobile technologies, the betting industry grew very fast. A large number of such websites are regulated and licensed; hence, they offer security for bettors but also bring economic benefits by paying taxes and opening jobs.

These are the reasons why local bookmakers use apps to try and compete better for the attention of more punters. This ensures that new and better services are constantly emerging in the industry. Furthermore, the locally-developed apps understand the preferences of South African bettors-from popular local sports down to easy and accessible options of payment such as EFT and mobile money. They tailor offerings to meet the needs at the market.

    Safety and Security of Betting

Safety is one of the key concerns a bettor would want, and the sports betting apps are already gaining serious momentum in that respect. On top of high-security features such as encryption, biometric authentications like fingerprint and face recognition, these apps offer a secure environment for users.

These apps come regulated by some of the most prestigious authorities, which means a clear conscience of the bettors that all personal and financial information is properly secured.

    Responsible Gambling Promotion

Another area that sports betting apps have also focused on pertains to encouraging responsible gambling. Most of them have enabling features that allow users to set a cap on spending, take breaks, or even self-exclude if need be. Thus, integrating responsible gambling tools into a betting app serves to help a user keep their habits in check and ensures that betting remains an enjoyable activity and not a problem one.

These different options of self-regulation are extremely important when it comes to making sports betting a sustainable kind of entertainment. By putting the bettors in charge of their activities, these apps contribute positively towards overall health in the industry where they operate.

    Conclusion

Sports betting applications make it a lot easier, more interactive, and safer for South African bettors. With user-friendly features, personalized experiences, expert insights, and responsible gambling options, these apps have raised the bar high in the South African betting landscape. As long as technology keeps changing day in and day out, the future of sports betting is only bound to get more exciting, dynamic, and interactive for one and all.

    0

It was not ideal for Kaizer Chiefs to lose akey assistant coach in August, but that’s football. Is Nasreddine Nabi replacing his departed assistant Fernando Da Cruz?

Meanwhile, Nabi has confirmed the news while also revealing whether Kaizer Chiefs will seek a replacement or not.

“Why not? It’s possible, it’s possible,” said Nabi via FARPost.

“It’s possible because I have too much job. Now, I have only one assistant who has specific work.

“If Mr Cruz is in Morocco, I think he’s there definitely because we received a letter from Morocco. But we will have some little time to observe the situation,” the Kaizer Chiefs head coach concluded.
