    Adams and Adams is offering a Secretarial Trainee learnership opportunity. This programme is open to 12 candidates and aims to provide the necessary training needed to ensure that the candidates gain the necessary knowledge and skills needed to be employed in any secretarial position. Adams and Adams also offers candidates a monthly stipend during the programme.
    Programme Duration:
    The programme will run for a duration of 1 year and will commence on 1 March 2022 and end on 28 February 2023. In the first 5-6 months of the programme, the candidates will develop their typing and keyboard skills as well as get an introduction into both the general workplace and legal environment.

    Only candidates who have successfully completed this phase will move on to phase 2/ the second half of the programme. The second phase focuses mostly on preparing the candidates for the ‘real-life work environment’ and concentrates on advanced audio typing, typing speed, presentations and spreadsheets, as well as other necessary secretarial skills, such as writing letters and memos, note-taking, responsibility, taking initiative, as well as preparing different types of necessary correspondence.

    Candidates will partake in practical training, a mid-year exam, as well as an astringent final exam, and the training during the programme will consist of departments such as Trade Marks, Patents, Commercial and Conveyancing. In order to pass this programme and achieve an NQF-4 in Business Administration Services, the candidates would need to pass thorough keyboarding, computer, and logistic skills test.

    The City of Cape Town is offering a Fire Fighter learnership opportunity as part of the safety and security doctorate. Once the candidate has successfully completed their training and assessments, they will then be appointed to a permanent Learner Firefighter position.

    To determine the successful candidate for the programme, all shortlisted candidates will be required to complete the following fitness tests:

    • 2.4 km run (13 minutes for females and 11 minutes for males)
    • Reach test (1.9 meters)
    • Sit-ups (must complete 30 within 60 seconds)
    • Push-ups (must complete 30 within 60 seconds)
    • Dead load carries (must carry two 25kg drums over a 100 meter distance)

    Once candidates have passed the physical test, they will then have to complete the following tasks:

    • Pass a written assessment as well as an interview
    • Submit their fingerprints/ identity numbers for the purpose of background and criminal record check
    • Undergo a City medical examination
    • Undergo a drug test that will be conducted at a City testing venue

    ABOUT THE COMPANY

    Columbus Stainless is the sole producer of flat stainless steel products not only in South Africa, but across the whole African continent. The company was founded in 1966 and produces a range of products, from quality wristwatches to kitchen sinks.

    Columbus Stainless produces 3 types/ classes of stainless steel – ferritic, austenitic and duplex, of which each consist of various subclasses.

    ABOUT THE LEARNERSHIP

    Columbus Stainless Learnerships run over the course of 2 years. Once students have completed the training programme, they will receive a MERSETA Metals Manufacturing qualification (NQF Level 2).
