    Robben Island Museum (RIM), established by the Department of Arts and Culture in 1997, is a public entity responsible for the management, maintenance, presentation, development and marketing of Robben Island as a national estate and World Heritage Site.

    RIM is also responsible for managing and maintaining the Islands assets, including the Medium and Maximum Security Prison Complexes, Robert Sobukwe’s House, Curio shops, Village Shops, the Village Precinct and related recreational facilities, as well as the Helipad and runway on the Island, World War 2 memorials, power generation and water processing plants, Jetty 1 and the Nelson Mandela Gateway the Mayibuye Archives, the 3 ferries that transport people to the Island and buses used by tourists on the Island.

    Guided tours take place every day, Monday to Sunday, of the island’s prison including lime quarry where prisoners labored & Mandela’s cell. The Robben Island experience starts at the Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town at 4 allocated times each day.

    Robben Island Museum are inviting suitable candidates to join their 12 month Internship programme at Robben Island Museum, in the Heritage and Research Department.     Ndlambe Municipality is offering an individual under the age of 35 a 2-year accountant internship. The candidate will receive a monthly stipend, subject to assessment. The programme is funded by the National Treasury (Finance Management Grant) with the aim of executing Accounting and Budget reforms under the control of the Ndlambe local Municipality. In addition to this, the programme aims to enhance the technical skills of the candidate whereby the candidate undergoes rigorous training in Municipal Accounting and Financial Management.

    Contract term: 2 years (fixed term)
    Stipend: R4 833.33 monthly (first year) and R8 333.33 monthly (second year)

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

    • Age requirement: must be younger than 35-years
    • Education requirement: must have an appropriate Degree (3 years) OR a National Diploma (3 years) in any of the following: Risk Management; Accounting; Financial Management/ Internal Auditing with Accounting II as an additional subject (Accounting III-Advantageous)
    • Computer skill requirement: must be computer literate with excellent knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel
    • Language requirement: must be verbally fluent in a minimum of two languages native to the Ndlambe Council area
    • Must be unemployed
    • Must come from a previously disadvantaged background, in accordance with the Employment Equity Act
    • Must be eager to go through performance assessments in the internship programme
