UNISA will keep you informed about the status of your application. If your application is accepted, it will indicate which degree and qualification they can offer you (semester 1).

UNISA Requirements
Your grade 12 results determine whether you meet the minimum criteria to study at UNISA. Each course has specific requirements. You can look up the UNISA requirements here.

Before submitting your application, you must have the required APS total and necessary subjects. Some courses might require biology or higher grade mathematics. How to Calculate Your APS Score
UNISA requires a minimum of 15 points for a higher certificate, 18 points for a diploma, and a minimum of 21 points for a bachelor’s degree. You need a minimum of 30% for language and above 50% for four of the subjects listed below.

UNISA Application Dates
If you’re applying to UNISA for short courses, diplomas or certificates, applications are open all year round. If the specific class isn’t available at the time of your application, the university will inform you when you can apply.
For bachelor’s degrees and longer courses, the university has a specific time from which you must apply. UNIVEN Requirements
Before you begin your application to Univen, you will need to keep in mind that there are a few requirements that you will need to comply with and be eligible for. There are different requirements for applying for a degree, a diploma, or a certificate to apply as an undergraduate student.
As per the guidelines on the university’s website, if you wish to apply for an undergraduate degree, you will need the following, at minimum, to be considered for application:
A National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by the Council for General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi), with an achievement rating of 4 (adequate achievement, 50-59%) or better in four subjects chosen from the recognized 20-credit NSC subjects
A minimum point score of 26
If grade 12 has been achieved, applicants must have a grade 12 certificate with a bachelor or matric exemption.

How to Apply to UCT
Applications for prospecting undergraduate students can be made online through the university website’s online application portal or via paper copy sent to the UCT Admissions Office. For postgraduates, applications can only be made online at this time. Keep in mind that you will be subjected to an application fee for both online and hardcopy admissions.

While undergraduate applications have now closed for the 2025 academic year, you may still apply for attendance in the following year by 1 May 2025. UCT Requirements
At the University of Cape Town, the undergraduate admission requirements are different for each faculty, and these requirements are apt to change every year. These include the type of documents and samples of work you need to submit with your application. Applicants for the diploma program are required to hold a certified National Senior Certificate (NSC) with an achievement rating of 3.
For those looking to be eligible for degree study, you will need to meet at least one of the following requirements:
Successful completion of a minimum of 4 subjects at a rating of 4 or better in any four 20-credit NSC subjects (for bearers of a South African National Senior Certificate).
Matriculation endorsement (for bearers of a South African Senior Certificate).
Qualification for a matriculation exemption certificate (for bearers of a non-South African school-leaving certificate).
English Language Proficiency
All eligible applicants must also be proficient in the English language. To ensure that this standard is held, South African applicants must submit one of the following:
A successful passing grade in English Home Language or First Additional Language for bearers of the National Senior Certificate (NSC), or
A grade of at least 40% in English on the Higher Grade (first or second language) for bearers of the Senior Certificate.
As for international applicants, you must also provide proof of English language proficiency if
English is not your first language, or you have not passed English at NSC Grade 12, AS-level, IGCSE, NSSC level or equivalent. According to the university’s website, proof can be given by submitting one of the following:
A valid (no more than 2 years old) TOEFL iBT Score Report with an overall score of 88 or above, with at least 19 in Listening, 19 in Writing, 20 in Reading and 22 in Speaking.
IELTS Academic Test Report Form with an overall score of band 6.5 or above, with at least 6.0 in each component.
A valid (no more than 2 years old) PTE Academic Score Report with an overall score of 67 or above, with at least 59 in each communicative skills component.
A valid (no more than 3 years old) NBT Academic Literacy Plus score report with an overall score in the Intermediate Upper range or above.

UCT Registration
After your application is sent in, you have met all requirements, and you have received your letter of acceptance, you should be ready to register yourself for attendance at UCT. The University of Limpopo (UL) is a South African tertiary institution that was born in 2005 as a result of a merger between the University of the North and the Medical University of Southern Africa. It is located in Polokwane, South Africa and is known for its liberal admission policy.
UL has about 2000 excellent teaching staff to cater to the needs of about 20,000. That is a ratio of 1:10; that is, one tutor is responsible for an average of 10 students. University of Limpopo (UL) Requirements
The University of Limpopo offers various degree programs, and each program has requirements that are specific to it. The following are the requirements you need to apply as a prospective student to the University of Limpopo.
National Senior Certificate with the exemption of Bachelors
Life Orientation with a minimum of 3.
You were able to attain the minimum level of achievement in the specific subjects on which each faculty lays emphasis.
For diploma, you attained four 20 credit subjects with a minimum NSC achievement level of 3.
For degree programmes, you attained four 20-credit subjects with a minimum NSC achievement level of 4.
Matriculation Certificate
You could apply for admission into the University of Limpopo with the regular Grade 12 Senior Certificate if you completed Grade 12 before 2008. The only clause is to convert your grade symbols to the Admissions Point Scale, which is the acceptable standard.
National Certificate
You could apply for admission if you completed the National Certificate Vocational Level 4. You will have to take on Placement Tests and follow Faculty admissions Specifications. Additionally, you need the following:
A National certificate Level 4 with three fundamental subjects including Life Orientation at a 50% score and three compulsory vocational subjects at 60%. This is for diploma programmes.
If you want to study a degree programme at UL, you need to have a National Certificate Level 4, three essential subjects, including Life Orientation, with a 60% score. You also need to have four relevant vocational subjects with a 70% score, including Life Orientation at a 60% score. We see that degree programmes have a 10% increase in the scores required for admission compared to diploma programmes.
The Admission Point Scale (APS)
It is a system that you can use (as a prospective student) to calculate your Grade 12 exemption results to see if you meet the University of Limpopo’s minimum requirements to accept your application. Compare your APS results with the minimum acceptable APS offered by the faculty in which you will like to study a specific program. This is because different faculties have different APS requirements.
However, it is noteworthy that despite having a good APS score and meeting the other admission requirements, you may not be accepted because of the sheer number of students seeking admission into UL annually. Nonetheless, having more than an average APS score and following all the admission instructions till the latter will boost your chances of having a place in UL.

University of Witwatersrand (Wits) is one of the universities that use an online application system. It has a self-service process where prospective students can apply and choose the field of study of their choice. There is also an option to track one’s application process/status. These are the steps one need to follow to check their application progress.
Step 1: Visit the official Wits website at www.wits.ac.za, and you will land on the ‘Home’ page. On your upper left, there will be a tab for ‘Menu’; click on it.
Step 2: Click on ‘self-service’ then follow the prompts, or you can click ‘Study @ Wits’. Then choose application.
