    ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

    Finsch Diamond Mine, a part of Petra Diamonds, will be awarding bursaries to South African students who wish to pursue their careers in the mining sector and wish to make a positive contribution to the country.

    Bursaries will be awarded within one of the following fields:

    MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE, SERVICE CONTRACT & SELECTION

    The following expenses will be covered by the bursary award: tuition fees, accommodation, meals, cash and travel allowance.

    Students will be required to take part in practical vacation work during the December and January holidays, and once graduated, work for Petra Diamonds for a period equal to their bursary award.

    Shortlisted candidates will be contacted – if you do not receive any feedback within 30 days of the application deadline, please consider your application unsuccessful. Applicants will undergo pre-screening, profile testing, assessments, medical clearance and security clearance as part of the recruitment and selection process. Selected applicants will also be required to attend a panel interview.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    • South Africa citizen
    • Reside within the labour sending area of Kgatelopele
    • Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
    • Studying or have been accepted to study within one of the aforementioned fields of study
    • Studying or have been accepted to study full time at a recognised University or University of Technology
    • Achieved a minimum level 6 for Mathematics (NOT Mathematical Literacy) and Science in mid-year Grade 12 examinations
    • Achieved good tertiary academic results if currently studying at University or University of Technology
    • Achieved a minimum APS score of 35 for Engineering studies
    • Achieved a minimum APS score of 31 for other fields of study
    • *Preference will be given to children of permanent employees, as well as children on company scholarship programmes and students from local communities

    The South Africa Energy Coal (SAEC) operations are situated near eMalahleni (previously Witbank) and Middelburg, in the coalfields of Mpumalanga. The SAEC is 92% owned by South32, and the remaining 8% is owned by a Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment consortium, led by Phembani Holdings.

    SAEC includes 4 coal mining operations, namely: Khutala Colliery; Klipspruit Colliery; Middelburg Colliery and Wolvekrans Colliery – they also operate 3 processing plants to produce energy coal for the domestic and export market.

    The Khutala Colliery is an underground bord and pillar operation, while the other 3 collieries are opencast mines to extract coal.

    ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMMES – FIELDS COVERED

    South32 Khutala Colliery (SAEC) have 2 types of bursaries available:

    1) Community bursary: for students who are local community members of SAEC (near eMalahleni and Middelburg), for studies at tertiary level in ANY field of study.

    2) Child of employee bursary: for students who are children of local community members of SAEC (near eMalahleni and Middelburg), for studies at tertiary level in ANY field of study.

    MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE, OBLIGATIONS & SELECTION

    Both bursaries will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, accommodation, meals, book allowance, laptop and a basic medical aid coverage for students who are not yet covered.

    Students will not be guaranteed vacation work placement, however it will be considered if required to complete the qualification.
    Students will NOT be required to work for South32 after completion of their studies.

    ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

    The Joel Joffe Scholarship is applicable to 3rd year LLB undergraduate students, pursuing their studies at the University of the Western Cape or the University of Fort Hare.

    The scholarship will provide cover for tuition fees of the last year of your LLB study, to a maximum value of R40 000. Scholarships are provided for up to a maximum of 2 years.

    Once students have graduated, they will take part in a paid internship position at Equal Education Law Centre or Legal Resources Centre. Students will also have the opportunity to increase their academic and leadership skills via organised events.

    Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview (from 28 October at the University of Fort Hare and from 4 November at the University of the Western Cape). The final outcome will be announced in November 2019.

    The bursary will provide full cover for the following expenses:
    Undergraduate University and University of Technology students: registration fees, tuition fees, exam fees, accommodation in residence or an equivalent allowance, meals, and an allowance for books and pocket money to a maximum of R12 000 per year.

    University of Technology students will also have the opportunity to to complete their academic requirements (S1 – S4) at a University of Technology, as well as practical training aspects (P1 and P2) – at Sasol.

    Postgraduate students: all academic costs necessary for graduation, a monthly stipend for 12 months to assist with payment of registration fees, tuition fees, accommodation and all other study expenses.

    Once undergraduate students have completed their qualification, they will be required to work for Sasol for the equal duration of bursary funding received.

    We are pleased to inform you about Gumtree South Africa Study Fund 2025-2026/read full details.

    The Gumtree website was launched by Simon Crookall and Michael Pennington in March 2000 as a local classified ads website whereby communities in various countries could communicate and stay connected. The website was designed with the intention of connecting people from New Zealand, Australia and South Africa who had just moved to London and needed help getting set up with accommodation, employment and even meeting a few friends.
    Today, more than 15 years later, Gumtree South Africa is probably the biggest classified ads website for South Africans. You can find anything from property rentals and sales, to fashion, employment and of course education.

    ABOUT THE BURSARY

    Gumtree South Africa are giving away R20 000 to 3 lucky students to put towards their tertiary studies. The R20 000 will be broken up into 3 seperate awards:
