Each year, Deloitte award bursaries to deserving students. Bursaries are awarded to learners studying towards a SAICA accredited Chartered Accountancy stream degree qualification (undergraduate or postgraduate).

On completion of their studies, students are required to complete a 3 year traineeship programme with the company.

1) The Pure Merit Bursary will be awarded based on academic results alone, for students who don’t need extensive funding
2) The Merit Bursary with Financial Needs will be awarded based on academic results AND financial need, for students who would otherwise not be able to attend university.

Both of these bursaries will be awarded to students with great academic results.

ABOUT THE COMPANY – JB MARKS EDUCATION TRUST FUND

The JB Marks Education Trust Fund was formed in 1997 by the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), as a means to address the need for empowering NUM members and dependents of NUM members, specifically those studying towards qualifications in the construction, mining and energy sectors.

The Trust was named after John Beaver Marks, a South African activest and leader and strong believer in empowerment and emancipation for workers via education. The Trust’s mission has always been to fund the educational expenses of its members and since its inception has funded over 1000 bursars and awarded over R280 million to more than 2000 beneficiaries.

Most of the funding is received from the Mineworkers Investment Trust (MIT) via Mineworkers Investment Company (MIC) dividends.

ABOUT THE JB MARKS EDUCATION TRUST FUND BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION

Every year, the JB Marks Education Trust Fund invites undergraduate and postgraduate students to apply for their bursary award. The bursary is available to NUM members and their dependents (including children and spouses). There will be 200 bursaries awarded for undergraduate studies and 50 bursaries awarded for postgraduate studies.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies in critical fields only (as defined and approved by the Board of Trustees) will be accepted.

The value of the bursary is determined on a case-by-case basis depending on the field of study, and will be awarded on a first-come-first-serve basis due to a limitation on funding.

Successful candidates will be contacted with an acceptance letter (via physical delivery, post or email), as well as to all NUM national branches. If you do not receive any correspondence or acceptance letter by 31 December 2021, and your name is not on the NUM regional list, regard your application as unsuccessful.

Please note the following terms and conditions before applying:

The bursary award can NOT be used to pay off existing study loans or debts.
If students drop out of their studies within the first 6 months, they will be required to pay back the bursary.

If students receive study funding from any other source, the bursary award will be cancelled and the student will be required to pay back the bursary.

ABOUT THE EXXARO BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

Exxaro are inviting students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2021 academic year, for studies within core mining industry disciplines. Students who are currently in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study, towards one of these qualifications may apply:

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, books, accommodation, meals, laptop or tablet and pocket money.

On completion of their studies, bursary recipients will be able to join the Professional-in-Training (PIT) programme to gain further learning and prepare candidates for leadership roles in the organisation.

Exxaro will select candidates based on the companys Employment Equity policy – if you do not receive any feedback within 28 days after the closing date, please reagrd your application as unsuccessful.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE EXXARO BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

You must be a South African citizen
You must have completed Matric
You must be studying full-time towards one of the aforementioned qualifications
You must be studying at a recognised tertiary institute within South Africa
Civil Engineering students: must be in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
Electrical Engineering students: must be in their 2nd year of study
Electronic Engineering students: must be in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
Industrial Engineering students: must be in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
Mechanical Engineering students: must be in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
Mechatronic Engineering students: must be in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
Metallurgical Engineering students: must be in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
Mining Engineering students: must be in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
Geology students: must be in their 2nd academic year
Mine Surveying students: must be in their 2nd academic year
