    Rand Water, a South African water utility company which supplies Gauteng (and various other areas of South Africa) with potable water, was founded in 1903. The company, previously known as the Rand Water Board, is Africa’s biggest water utility.

    Rand Water provides purified water which has been extracted from various sources, to metropolitan municipalities; local municipalities; industries and mines. The company is also involved in waste water sanitation.

    The distribution network includes over 3000 km of pipeline, which supplies 58 service reservoirs. The average supply of water is over 3500 million litres of water per day.

    ABOUT THE RAND WATER BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & SELECTION

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RAND WATER BURSARY

    The Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU), founded in 1989, is the countries largest union within the textile, clothing and leather industry. It is also one of the biggest affiliates of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU). SACTWU is responsible for the negotiation of wages, as well as terms of conditions of employment for a large portion of workers within this industry.

    SACTWU currently has over 105 000 members and 18 offices throughout South Africa, including in Cape Town; Johannesburg; Pretoria; Durban; Port Elizabeth; East London and Pietermaritzburg.

    ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE

    SACTWU manage the largest bursary fund in the trade union throughout the country. The bursary fund was initiated in 1975 and is awarded to members, their spouses and their dependents.

    The bursary award will pay 75% of the tuition fees only – books, residence, meals and transport are NOT covered. Children studying at Public Universities will receive a maximum coverage of R35 000, while children at registered Private Institutions will receive a maximum coverage of R7 000 and spouses will receive half of the above mentioned amounts.

    Please note that students who are child dependants will be required to conduct 50 hours of community service.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    Epilepsy South Africa, formerly known as “South African National Epilepsy League (SANEL)” is the only NPO within South Africa that assists people with epilepsy and other disabilities, by helping them gain the skills and knowledge to work in the labour market.

    Because of the prejudice towards people with epilepsy within the work force, they often find it extremely challenging to find employment. As a result, Epilepsy South Africa created the Mick Leary Educational Trust. Professor Mick Leary was a former Epilepsy South Africa Chairperson, epilepsy expert and Paediatric Neurologist.

    The aim of the Trust is to help give people with epilepsy a chance to further their studies and gain the skills they need to enter the labour market.

    ABOUT THE BURSARY

    The bursary programme is intended for students with epilepsy, who have been accepted to study at a tertiary institution. The bursary covers all fields of study, but would like to encourage students to follow a career in which they are interested in and for which there is great demand in the South African labour market.

    Solomon Mahlangu was executed under the apartheid laws at the age of 23, after he was wrongfully accused of terrorism and murder. The scholarship fund was created in memory of this young man.

    The scholarship fund was created with the aim of helping full time students pursue their studies, that are within the critical and scarce skills areas listed below.

    ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

    The Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu Postgraduate Scholarship Fund will provide cover for the following fields of study:

    • 1 year postgraduate qualification (excluding postgraduate diplomas)
    • 1 year TVET qualification in creative arts

    The scholarship will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, meals, accommodation, prescribed books and equipment (up until a threshold).

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    • South African citizen
    • Under 35 years old
    • Completed Matric
    • Completed an undergraduate degree qualification
    • Achieved a minimum overall average of 60% for the degree qualification
    • Intend on studying towards one of the aforementioned qualifications
    • Intend on studying at a recognised public tertiary institution
    • Proven financial need (household income of less than R15 000 per month)

    Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo the following checks before bursaries are awarded: formal selection assessments, medical examination for cases where medical fitness is a job requirement, reference checks, criminal record check and citizenship verification.
