    The South African National Society (SANC) goals are stipulated in the constitution. They aim to create love and appreciation for South Africa’s historical, natural, and cultural heritage as well as its citizens. The SANC aims to further promote appreciation for all the aspects that are integral to the citizens of the county, and provide general support and publicity to the South African Heritage Resources Agency and the Amafa/ Heritage KwaZulu-Natal in their aim of preserving the cultural resources of the country. SANC also helps in supporting other organizations/ bodies facing a similar task.

    Dr Margaret Roach Killie Campbell was a South African collector of Africana. After she passed away in 1965, her collection was bequeathed to the University of KwaZulu-Natal and is now the Killie Campbell Africana Library. The Killie Campbell Bursary was formed in her honour.

    ABOUT THE SANC BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

    The South African National Society is inviting students to apply for the Killie Campbell Bursary. The bursary is awarded each year for postgraduate studies in History or related fields, at a recognized South African university. The candidate’s area of research (pertaining to their dissertation) has to be a topic related to Southern Africa (preferably the history of KwaZulu-Natal).

    The bursary amount varies, however, it is assumed that the 2021 bursary will equate to R20 000.

    MORE ABOUT THE SANC BURSARY PROGRAMME – SELECTION

    The candidate will be selected by the selection committee; thereafter, the candidate may be required to partake in an in-person or Skype interview with the committee. The successful candidate will receive half the bursary at the South African National Society meeting in September 2021, and the other half will be awarded 6 months after the President of the society receives a well-written submission by the candidate’s supervisor.

    Bursary recipients will be required to give an outline of their topic at one of the South African National Society’s monthly meetings. Students are then required to submit a soft copy to the South African National Society’s website once they have completed their dissertation.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SANC BURSARY

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    • You must be studying towards a Postgraduate qualification, towards a History related topic
    • You must have a topic of research relating to South African History
    • You must be completing tertiary studies at a recognised University in South Africa

    Once students have graduated, they will be required to enrol into the internship program at the West Coast District Municipality.

    Campus France is an agency of the French Ministries of European and Foreign Affairs and of Higher Education and Research. The aim of the organisation is to encourage French Higher Education and facilitate academic exchange between global and French tertiary institutions.

    Campus France in South Africa is committed to promoting higher education in France, and assists students and researchers who wish to pursue postgraduate studies in France. Each year, the Embassy of France in South Africa award scholarship funding for Master’s or PhD degree studies in France. They are partnered with French businesses present in South Africa, as well as South African organisations (namely: the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), National Research Foundation (NRF) and Universities South Africa (USAf)).

    ABOUT THE EMBASSY OF FRANCE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

    Embassy of France is inviting South African and Lesothan students, to apply for scholarship funding, for the 2022 academic year. The scholarship will cover studies in France towards a Master’s degree or PhD qualification, in ANY field of study.

    Embassy of France offers 2 scholarship types:
    1) A full scholarship, which includes: tuition fees (up to a maximum value of 5000 euros per year), return flight to France, monthly allowance (approximately 700 euros for master students and 1400 euros for PhD students), individualized accommodation aid (approximately 150 euros per month) from the French Government. Scholars will also receive social security, priority for accessing student housing, visa fee exemption and assistance by Campus France Paris.

    2) A cost sharing scholarship, which includes: a monthly allowance provided fully or partially by a partner, and all the other benefits of a full scholarship.

    Candidates are encouraged to seek alternative sources of funding, and special attention will be given to students with confirmed sources of financing.
    Scholarships will be awarded for a specified amount of time to be spent in France, in line with the time required to obtain the degree:

    • Master’s degree students: scholarships will be awarded for between 10 and 22 months. Master degrees are generally 2 years long and in some cases, students may be required to apply to M2 (2nd year of the Master Programme). After the 1st year of study, the Embassy of France may award the scholarship for the 2nd year depending on academic performance.
    • PhD students: scholarships will be awarded for a maximum of 3 years. After the 1st year of study, students will be required to justify the progress of their research work in order to qualify for funding for 2nd and 3rd year.
    • PhD students under co-supervision/ cotutelle: scholarships will be awarded for periods spent in France and these periods of stay should be specified by the candidate.

     

    TIMELINE AND IMPORTANT DATES FOR THE EMBASSY OF FRANCE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

    • 21 September 2021: scholarship applications close.
    • October 2021: eligible candidates will be interviewed.
    • November to December 2021: final candidates will be selected and results will be made available.
    • January to July 2022: specific programme will commence in South Africa (online french courses and possibly internship).
    • Early September 2022: departure to France

    The University of KwaZulu-Natal was established in 2004 as a merger between the University of Natal and Durban-Westville. The University of KwaZulu-Natal consists of 5 main campuses, namely Edgewood, Howard College, Medical School, Pietermaritzburg, and Westville campus. The University’s campuses hold a number of colleges, specialising in different trades and disciplines.

    The UKZN College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science (CAES) consists of 5 main schools: School of Agricultural, Earth, and Environmental Studies, School of Chemistry and Physics, School of Engineering, School of Life Sciences, and School of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of this college is Professor Albert Modi, who is supported by six school Deans of Teaching, Learning and Research.

    ABOUT THE UKZN COLLEGE OF CAES BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

    The University of KwaZulu-Natal College of Agriculture, Engineering, and Science (CAES) is inviting students to apply for bursaries for the 2022 academic year.

    These bursaries are made possible due to the generous donations of various donors. The College will be awarding numerous bursaries to Postgraduate students, for studies towards the following qualifications:

    Agricultural or Agriculture Management (MSc)

    • Donor: Donald Moore
    • Number of bursaries available: 2
    • Value of the bursary: R45 845 each

    Horticulture (MSc or PhD)

    • Donor: John Travers
    • Number of bursaries available: 2 (1 for Masters of Science, and 1 for PhD studies)
    • Value of the bursary: R34 422

    Engineering (excludes Mechanical Engineering) (MScEng)

    • Donor: TB Davis
    • Number of bursaries available: 1

    Mechanical Engineering (MScEng or PhD)

    • Number of bursaries available: 4 for Masters of Science in Engineering (MScEng) and for 4 Doctoral (PhD) studies

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE UKZN COLLEGE OF CAES BURSARY

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    Agriculture or Agricultural Management:

    • Must be a South African student
    • Must be currently registered at the University of KwaZulu-Natal
    • Must be currently registered for one of the following qualifications: MSc in Agriculture or MSc in Agricultural Management
    • Must have a credit weight average in Honours of at least 75%

    Horticulture:

    • Must currently be registered for one of the following qualifications: MSc or PhD in Horticulture
    • Must have a credit weighted average of at least 75% in your previous degree

    Engineering (Excluding Mechanical Engineering):

    • Must be an engineering graduate of the University of KwaZulu-Natal
    • Must be currently registered for an MScEng qualification (excluding MScEng Mechanical Engineering)
    • Must have a credit weighted average of at least 75% in your BScEng degree

    Mechanical Engineering:

    • Must be registered for one of the following qualifications: MScEng or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
    • Must have a credit weight average of at least 75% in your previous degree
    • Preference will be given to graduates of University of KwaZulu-Natal

    The South African Medical Association (SAMA) was formed in May 1998 as a way to unify doctors from various groups, who had a range of interests. Today, SAMA is a non-profit organisation for both private and public sector medical practitioners. The voluntary membership association aims to serve the needs and interests of its members in healthcare-related matters.

    ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED, COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION

    The South African Medical Association (SAMA) bursary is intended for 2nd to 4th year students studying within the medical field (MB ChB or MB BCh), who are from disadvantaged backgrounds and also show strong academic ability.

    Bursaries will be awarded to the value of R20 000 per annum, to help medical students pay for tuition fee only (NOT for textbooks, accommodation or other related expenses). As this is not a full coverage bursary, students are allowed to acquire other bursary funding which must be declared to SAMA.

    MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – RENEWABILITY & SELECTION

    Bursaries are renewable each year based on students passing their subjects.

    Successful applicants will be contacted telephonically by 30 April 2019. If you have not received any feedback by 1 May 2019, please accept that your application was not successful.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees and prescribed textbooks. The total value of the bursary will be dependent on the applicants debt.
