The research-oriented training programs have been established at the University of the Western Cape and Ruhr-University of Bochum for quite some time with the course offerings coming from the disciplines of social sciences, economics, and administrative sciences.

    ABOUT THE SA-GER CDR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

    The South African-German Centre for Development Research (SA-GER CDS) is offering a 2-year DAAD merit scholarship program for a Masters degree in Development Studies. Studies will be conducted at the ISD (Institute for Social Development), School of Government, at the University of the Western Cape (UWC).

    Candidates who plan to establish a career in social development and the economic sector in fields such as activists, policy-makers, administrators, researchers, developers, or teachers at universities may apply.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SA-GER CDR SCHOLARSHIP

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    • You must be from a Sub-Saharan African country (this includes South Africa. See the list of here Sub-Sahara African countries)
    • You must have completed a Degree related to Developmental Studies
    • You must have completed an Honours Degree in order to qualify for a Masters Degree course (South African Students)
    • You must completed have a 4 year Undergraduate Degree or equivalent to qualify for a Masters Degree course (students from countries other than South Africa)
    • You must have an academic record with a 70% average for your latest Degree
    • You must hust have completed studies at an internationally recognised university
    • You must be fluent in the English language – written and oral (students must provide evidence of this in the form of TOEFL TEST/ similar from an academic institution)
    • You must have previous work or voluntary experience in your field of interest (advantageous)
    • You must apply within 6 years of completing your Degree
    • You must be able to complete the programme on a full-time basis at UWC
    • You must be available for the interview period

     

    HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SA-GER CDR SCHOLARSHIP

    1. Write critical notes on how inequality can be measured. What do you regard as the causes of inequality in your country?
    2. What are the prospects for a successful Developmental State model in any African country of your choice?
    3. hat do you see as the root causes of migration? How can these be addressed?
    Please note:

    • Women and South African students are strongly encouraged to apply
    • Candidates applying for MA/ M Econ in Development Studies, and PhD can apply for the scholarship without applying to study at UWC. Should these candidates be rewarded a scholarship/ they plan to finance themselves, they can then apply for admission via the online application procedure
    • The electronic application form is only available during an open call

    ABOUT THE ROTARY CLUB OF NEWLANDS BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

    The Rotary Club of Newlands is inviting students to apply for a bursary opportunity, that covers ALL fields of study. Bursaries are awarded each year, for courses that are at least 2 years long, with funding starting from the 2nd year of study.

    The bursary program may be awarded for different courses and for different durations, as such, bursaries may be awarded for courses that are 2 years or longer but the funding will then start from the 2nd year.

    The Rotary Club of Newlands bursary is awarded based on 2 major criteria: financial need and academic merit.

    MORE ABOUT THE ROTARY CLUB OF NEWLANDS BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & RENEWABILITY

    The Bursary aims to cover the candidate’s registration and tuition fees, as well the costs for any books they may require, and is awarded per annum. Bursaries are generally awarded to cover 75% of the course fees, however students who perform exceptionally may receive funding up to 100% – this will be subjects to the availability of funds and at the discretion of the committee.

    Bursaries are awarded for 1 academic year at a time and are renewable each year based on satisfactory performance. Bursary recipients will be favoured, depending on the decision from the committee, the work ethic of the student, as well as the availability of funds.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROTARY CLUB OF NEWLANDS BURSARY

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    • You must be a South African citizen (non-citizens will be considered under exceptional circumstances)
    • Preference will be given to students residing in the Western Cape province (students from other provinces may also apply, if they intend to stay in the Western Cape)

    ABOUT THE SUBTROP LINDSEY MILNE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

    Subtrop are inviting students to apply for the Lindsey Milne bursary for the 2022 academic year. Every year, the bursary scheme provides financial assistance to students pursuing studies within the Subtropical fruit industry, in South Africa.

    Students who are studying towards a BSc Agriculture degree (preferably majoring in Agricultural Economics or Horticultural Science and related fields) are encouraged to apply.

    MORE ABOUT THE SUBTROP LINDSEY MILNE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE, OBLIGATIONS & SELECTION

    Bursaries are awarded for 1 academic year at a time, and are renewable each year based on satisfactory academic performance. The bursary value will depend on the needs of the students and will be reviewed annually.

    Bursary recipients will be required to enter into a contractual agreement with Subtrop. Once graduated, students will be required to work for Subtrop for an amount of time equal to their bursary award.

    Subtrop will appoint a panel of judges to make the selection for the bursary. All candidates will receive feedback on the outcome of their application as soon as possible.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SANLAM BURSARY

    • You must be a South African citizen
    • You must be currently in Matric
    • You must be enrolled and accepted to study towards an Actuarial Science qualification, for the 2022 academic year
    • You must have achieved a minimum result of 90% for Mathematics in Matric
    • You must have achieved an overall “A” average
    • You must have strong mathematical skills
    • Preference will be given to students from designated groups (Black students: African/ Indian/ Coloured)

    The South African Veterinary Foundation (SAVF) is a non-profit organisation, founded in 1984, whose aim it is to raise funds and promote animal education by research and informing the general public. At present, the Foundation has 3 Directors – Dr JJ Viljoen, Dr R Lobetti and Prof RM Kirberger.

    The Foundation aims to advance and promote all aspects of Biological Sciences and Veterinary Sciences in South Africa. In order to do so, they aim to support veterinary research, fund veterinary studies by means of loans and bursaries, as well as administer and invest in financial portfolios to hopefully improve the quality of life of human and animals. The SAVF have numerous initiatives whereby organizations or the public can contribute to the well being and support of animals.

    The South African Veterinary Foundation (SAVF) began funding 4th and 5th year veterinary students in 1999, and have funded 36 students to date, to the total value of R235 500.

    ABOUT THE SAVF BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

    The South African Veterinary Foundation, partnered with Lakato Veterinary Wholesalers, are inviting Veterinary students to apply for the SAVF Bursary. There will be 2 bursaries awarded, to the value of R10 000 each, to BVSc (Veterinary Science) IV and BVSc (Veterinary Science) V students at the University of Pretoria

    There will be no service contract or work back obligation on completion of studies.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SAVF BURSARY

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

    • Must be a South African citizen
    • Must have completed Matric
    • Must be studying towards a BVSc qualification (in your 4th or 5th year of study)
    • Must be studying at the University of Pretoria, in the Faculty of Veterinary Science

    • Must partake in campus student activities (including sports, culture and other student life activities)

    The Foundation receives its funding from the donation of Allan Gray Limited’s taxed profits. The Foundation currently operates in 4 countries across Africa, namely South Africa; Namibia; Swaziland and Botswana.

    The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellowship programme aims to provide funding for students to study at university level, as well as providing support and development for those who demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset.

    ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

    The Fellowship Programme aims to help students by cultivating entrepreneurship in Fellows, and ensuring that the Programme results in learners seeking to create entrepreneurship opportunities.     ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION PROCESS

    The following study related expenses are covered by the fellowship award: tuition fees, prescribed books, accommodation at university residence, meals, monthly living stipend, tutor allowance. Students also receive academic support, mentorship and access to a personal development and entrepreneurial programme.

    The selection process will include the following steps and dates:
    Matric students:
    Step 1: applications must be submitted by 30 April 2021 at 17:00.
    Step 2: shortlisted applicants will be contacted and invited to attend an interview in July 2021.
    Step 3: shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a Selection Camp October 2021.
    * All applicants will receive feedback after every step of the selection process, to keep them updated on the status of their application.
