Samancor Chrome was established in 1975, when a a merger occurred between 2 companies, namely SA Manganese Ltd and Amcor Ltd. The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) was formed in 1987, as the result of a merger between four unions, namely The Motor Industry Combined Workers Union (MICWU); The Metal and Allied Workers Union (MAWU); The National Automobile and Allied Workers Union (NAAWU); and The United Metal, Mining and Allied Workers of South Africa (UMMAWOSA)

Today, NUMSA is South Africa’s largest trade union, with over 338 000 members. ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

NUMSA is offering bursary awards to help students that are dependants of a NUMSA member or a staff dependant, to help pursue their tertiary studies. Bursaries will be awarded to students within the following fields of study:

B Education (majoring in Science and Mathematics)
B Com (majoring in Accounting, Financial Management and Auditing)
Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
BSc or B Eng (Engineering diploma or degree: Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, Metallurgical, Mechanical)
Computer Science/ Information Technology
Biomedical Technology

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

South African citizen
A dependant of a NUMSA member or staff dependant
Currently in Matric OR have completed Matric
Studying or intend on studying within one of the aforementioned fields of study
Studying or intend on studying full-time at a University or University of Technology
Proven financial need

Mintek will be awarding bursaries for Masters and Doctoral studies into the applications of reinforcement learning within Metallurgy.

Students will be required to conduct applied and theoretical research into the use of reinforcement learning in metallurgical processes and metallurgical plants, at Mintek and at their university.

Since it began operating, the Trust has helped over 1660 students who otherwise may have not afforded to pursue their tertiary education.

ABOUT THE HEXAGON TRUST BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

The Hexagon Trust are inviting students to apply for the bursary programme for the 2022 academic year. Students pursuing studies within the fields of Science, Engineering, and Commerce may apply.

Bursaries will be awarded to deserving students based on these criteria: academic performance, financial need, commitment to their studies, as well as determination to developing their skills and reach their full potential.

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees and a textbook allowance.
