    About the Scholarship:

    This prize recognises academic excellence in the Master of Teaching (Secondary). The Hugh Childers Memorial Prize was established in 1924 by Charles E. E. Childers and Mrs Stephen L. Simeon in memory of the Rt. Hon. Hugh Culling Eardley Childers, Vice Chancellor of the University. Childers had much to do with founding the University of Melbourne and became the university’s first Vice-Chancellor in 1853. He served until he left for England in 1857, continuing to assist the University in many ways after his departure.

    Eligibility for the Hugh Childers Memorial Prize:

    Applicant must be graduating from the Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education.

    Selection criteria:

    The prize is awarded to the graduating student who receives the second highest weighted average mark (WAM) in the course for the degree of Master of Teaching (Secondary) in the previous year.

    This prize celebrates research excellence in the Doctor of Education. This prize is named in honor of John Smyth, Principal of the Training College in Victoria (which subsequently became the Melbourne Teachers’ College) from 1902 to 1927 and the first Professorial Chair of Education at the University from 1919 until his death in 1927. John Smyth was a respected figure in education in Victoria who valued scholarship, and who recognized the benefits to both the individual and the community from the advanced study of education.

    Eligibility for the Oregon Consular Corps International Studies Scholarship:

    • Applicants must be US citizens, or legal residents, or international students on student visas.
    • Candidates should be declared International and Global Studies or Political Science majors as of Fall 2023.
    • Students must be in junior class standing or above (90+ credits) in good academic standing.
    • Applicants must maintain full-time status (12 credits per term) during the 2023-2024 academic year (fall, winter, and spring) and a minimum GPA of 3.00.

    • A current resume/CV
    • A copy of your unofficial PSU transcript
    • Two letters of reference: At least one letter should be from a PSU faculty member or advisor with specific knowledge of your international study, international-related work experience, volunteer experience, or school work.
