About University of British Columbia
The University of British Columbia, commonly referred to as UBC, is a public research university with campuses and facilities in British Columbia, Canada. Founded in 1908 as the McGill University College of British Columbia, the university became independent and adopted its current name in 1915.

The University of British Columbia has initiated President’s Academic Excellence Initiative PhD Award which is available to all new and continuing PhD students except those who have their tuition paid by an external sponsor.
Eligibility criteria for the President’s Academic Excellence Initiative PhD Award:
- Applicants from all nationalities are eligible.
- Applicants must enroll in a PhD course of study at the university.
- Applicants must demonstrate academic achievements

Note: The award will be assigned automatically to eligible students, no separate application is needed.
Value of the President’s Academic Excellence Initiative PhD Award:
Successful applicants of the President’s Academic Excellence Initiative PhD Award will receive the award values approximately-
- $555 per year for domestic students being assessed continuing tuition fees (year 4 and later)
- $1,215 per year for domestic students being assessed full tuition fees (years 1-3)
- $1,425 per year for international students.
