    Black Rock Mine Operations is a manganese property owned by Assmang (Associated Manganese Mines of South Africa, Ltd) since 1940. The mine represents one of the biggest manganese reserves in the country, with an estimated reserves of over 70 million tonnes of manganese ore grading 39% manganese metal.

    It is located near Kuruman in the Northern Cape province, where Manganese ore is mined, of which majority of production is exported and a small amount is sent to the South African domestic market.

    ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

    MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION

    The bursary will provide cover for the following study related expenses: tuition fees, prescribed books and accommodation.

    The contractual obligations of the bursary will be discussed with the selected bursary recipient on appointment.

    Shortlisted candidates will be notified within 3 weeks of the closing date – if you do not receive any feedback by this date, please regard your application as unsuccessful.
    Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview, as well as take part in a psychometric evaluation and medical fitness assessment, before final selection is made.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BURSARY

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
    Matric students:

    • Must have passed Matric with a Bachelor Pass/ University exemption
    • Must have achieved good results in Mathematics and Science in the Matric final exams
    • Must NOT be in receipt of any other bursary funding or financial assistance from another company
    • Preference will be given to students who have been accepted to study at University within one of the aforementioned fields of study
    • Preference will be given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds, in financial need, and in line with ASSMANG’s Employment Equity criteria
    • Preference will be given to students from the Northern Cape province, in local communities

    University or University of Technology students:

    • Must be studying towards an Advanced Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree or BTech degree, in one of the aforementioned fields of study
    • Must be currently in the second, third or fourth year of study
    • Must be studying full-time at a University or University of Technology in South Africa
    • Must have a strong academic record
    • Must have achieved a minimum average “B” symbol and passed all subjects (including final year exams and University admission)
    • Must NOT be in receipt of any other bursary funding or financial assistance from another company

    1. David Reunert Bursary: This bursary award value is R1,500. The bursary will be awarded to music students who intend on teaching or performing music professionally.

    2. Ellie Marx Memorial Scholarship: This bursary award value is R5,000. The bursary will be awarded to those studying stringed instruments (the violin in particular).

    3. Gladwell Scholarship: This bursary award value is R12,000 – to be paid in 2 installments to the institution/ person. The bursary will be awarded to music students who intend on studying music – instrumental, composition or vocal.

    4. Kathleen Irish Scholarship: This bursary award value is R12,000 – to be paid in 2 installments to the institution/ person. The bursary will be awarded to talented music students, who intend on studying piano at tertiary level and are financially disadvantaged.
    The winners of the bursary awards will be required to perform at the next SASMT Annual General Meeting.

    MORE ABOUT THE ISFAP BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE

    The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, books, study materials, accommodation, meals and a monthly stipend.

    Bursary recipients will also receive the following support: social support, life skills training, academic support (including extended programmes; academic development and tutorials), mentoring for the first year, medical support, tracking of academic performance via the online student platform and access to dedicated programme managers.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ISFAP BURSARY
