    ** If you are not yet registered you would only be required to visit a SARS branch once to verify your identity, address and bank details.

    ** All additional tax registration can be performed from eFiling without having to visit a branch again.
    ** Kindly note that the ‘IT77 registration form for Individuals’ was discontinued and that the only way to register is to visit a SARS branch where the friendly staff will register you on our system.

    About DTI funding

    DTI refers to the Department of Trade and Industry, which is responsible for providing financing to businesses that qualify for the funds, regardless of their sectors. The DTI funding application forms are available on the DTI website, making it easy for everyone to acquire the loans. There is always a question regarding the DTI grants, in terms of the DTI funding for small businesses. As stated earlier, the DTI funds are accessible to any business that qualifies for the grants, regardless of its sector.

    The DTI and its subsidiary agencies are involved in promoting economic development, Black Economic Empowerment, implementing commercial law, promoting and regulating international trade, and consumer protection

    To increase industrial competitiveness and to broaden the participation of enterprises in the economy, the DTI provides financial support to qualifying companies in various sectors of the economy. Financial support is offered for various economic activities, including manufacturing, business competitiveness, export development and market access.

    Here’s a list of the Industrial Development Incentives:

    Automotive Investment Scheme (AIS):

    The AIS is designed to grow and develop the automotive sector through investment in new and/or replacement models and components that will increase plant production volumes, sustain employment and/or strengthen the automotive value chain.

    Capital Projects Feasibility Programme (CPFP):

    The CPFP is a cost-sharing programme that contributes to the cost of feasibility studies likely to lead to projects outside South Africa that will increase local exports and stimulate the market for South African capital goods and services.

    Clothing And Textile Competitiveness Improvement Programme (CTCIP):

    The CTCIP aims to build capacity among clothing and textile manufacturers and in other areas of the apparel value chain in South Africa to enable them to effectively supply their customers and compete on a global scale. Such competitiveness encompasses issues of cost, quality, flexibility, reliability, adaptability and the capability to innovate.

    Production Incentive (PI):

    Under the PI, applicants can use the full benefit as either an upgrade grant facility or an interest subsidy facility, or a combination of both.

    Critical Infrastructure Programme (CIP):

    The CIP aims to enhance investment by supporting critical infrastructure, thus lowering the costs of investment. It is made available to approved eligible enterprises upon the completion of the infrastructure project concerned. Infrastructure for which funds are required is deemed to be ‘critical’ if the investment would not take place without the said infrastructure or the said investment would not operate optimally.

    People-Carrier Automotive Incentive Scheme (P-AIS):

    This incentive is designed to stimulate a growth path for the people-carrier vehicles industry through investment in new and/or replacement models and components that will result in new employment, retention of current employment and/or strengthen the automotive vehicles value chain.

    Section 12I Tax Allowance Incentive (12I):

    The 12I Tax Incentive is designed to support Greenfield investments (i.e. new industrial projects that utilise only new and unused manufacturing assets), as well as Brownfield investments (i.e. expansions or upgrades of existing industrial projects). The new incentive offers support for both capital investment and training.

    Support Programme for Industrial Innovation (SPII):

    The SPII is a support programme of the DTI. This programme is designed to promote technology development in industry in South Africa through the provision of financial assistance for the development of innovative products and/or processes.

    The SPII specifically focuses on the development phase, which begins at the conclusion of basic research and ends when a pre-production prototype has been produced.

    Aquaculture Development Enhancement Programme (ADEP):

    The ADEP is an incentive programme available to South African-registered entities engaged in primary, secondary and ancillary aquaculture activities in both marine and freshwater classified under SIC132 (fish hatcheries and fish farms) and SIC 301 and 3012 (production, processing and preserving of aquaculture fish). The grant is provided directly to approved applications for new projects or the upgrade or expansion of existing projects.

    Nurses are essential to all healthcare systems around the world. They ensure that individuals, families, and communities achieve optimal health, improving their quality of life. Because of this, nursing is an incredibly fulfilling and rewarding career.

     

    There are three main types of nurses in

    South Africa

    Registered Nurses or Nursing Sisters

    They are responsible for the supervision of enrolled and enrolled auxiliary nurses as well as typical nursing responsibilities.

    Enrolled Nurses

    They perform limited nursing care.

    Enrolled Nursing Auxiliaries

    They perform basic procedures and care for patients on a general level.

    According to the South African Nursing Council Statistics, the nursing industry in South Africa is growing. Fast. In the last 10 years, there has been a 35% increase in registered nurses (across all three categories) — that is over 74 000 new nurses registered in South Africa since 2008. Registered nurses have seen an increase of 31%, while enrolled nurses and enrolled nursing auxiliaries have seen increases of 71% and 15% respectively.

    As a nurse, you’ll always have a job. According to the South African Health Review 2017, nurses make up the largest single number of healthcare professionals in South Africa. And if you don’t love the idea of working in a hospital, don’t worry, your options don’t end there. As a nurse, you can work in schools, universities, outpatient clinics and pharmacies, government institutions, nursing homes, research labs and many other settings. Nursing is also a financially attractive job, earning between R12 500 and R25 000 a month.

    What Qualifications Do I Need to Become a Nurse?

    To qualify as a nurse, you can do one of the following:

    • a four-year bachelor’s degree in nursing
    • a three-year diploma
    • a one-year higher certificate in auxiliary nursing
    • one-year postgraduate advanced diploma in nursing and midwifery on top of your degree or diploma.

    After you get your qualification, you have to register with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).

    You can choose to complete your qualification at a public tertiary institution or at a private nursing college. These private colleges, such as Mediclinic, Netcare Education or Life College, offer the same diplomas or degrees as the universities and universities of technology.

    Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Sciences (BCur)

    The bachelor’s degree in nursing is generally a four-year-long course that is offered by most public universities in South Africa: UCT, Wits, Stellies (only postgrad), UP, UWC, NWU, UKZN, UNISA, etc. The degree consists of both a compulsory practical clinical training component and a theoretical component. Once you have completed a BCur (or equivalent), you are able to register as a professional nurse and midwife with the SANC.

    Entry Requirements:

    It is recommended that you take Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Life Sciences, but this is not compulsory at all institutions. You will need a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent qualification at exit level 4, with:

    • English (50-59%)
    • First additional or home language (50-59%)
    • Life Sciences (50-59%)
    • Maths Literacy (50-59%)
    • Life Orientation (50-59%)

    What does the course look like?

    The BCur usually prepares students to work in four specific fields:

    • general nursing (working in hospitals and medical practices)
    • community nursing
    • psychiatric nursing
    • midwifery (caring for mothers and babies)

    Your course will have a practical component. You will learn how to do the kind of practical work you will need to be able to do when you become a nurse. In the theoretical component, you will learn the theory of what it is to be a nurse and you will study medical, biological and natural sciences, psychological and social sciences, and pharmacology so that you have the knowledge you need to be a competent and successful healthcare professional.

    Diploma in Nursing

    These courses are often offered by universities of technology like DUT, TUT, VUT and CPUT. This course is only three years long and also consists of practical and theoretical work. After you have completed this qualification you are able to work as a registered staff nurse or enrolled nurse.

    Entry Requirements

    You will need a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent qualification at exit level 3 or 4, depending on the institution, to qualify to study this course. However, it is not as important that you have taken mathematics and/or physical sciences as it is for the BCur. You will also need:

    • English (50-59%)
    • First additional or home language (50-59%)
    • Four other subjects (50-59%)
    • Life Orientation (50-59%)

    What does the course look like?

    During this course, you will cover similar work to what you would cover in the BCur degree. You will go less in-depth with the work as the course is shorter. You will learn how to provide nursing care, apply your knowledge in the nursing practice, diagnose and treat minor illnesses and provide reproductive health care.

    Higher Certificate in Auxillary Nursing

    This is a one-year qualification that is aimed to equip you with the skills that you will need to provide basic nursing care to individuals while working under the supervision of a nurse who holds a national diploma or degree. After completing your higher certificate you will be able to register as an enrolled nursing auxiliary.

    Entry Requirements:

    You will need a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent qualification at exit level 3 or 4, depending on the institution, to qualify to study this course, however, it is not as important that you have taken mathematics, physical sciences or life sciences as it is for the BCur. You will also need:

    • English (50-59%)
    • First additional or home language (50-59%)
    • Four other subjects (50-59%)

    What does the course look like?

    This course will teach you how to apply your knowledge of the theory, the practice of basic nursing and how to assess, plan, implement and evaluate basic nursing care for individuals and groups.

    Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Nursing

    This course is designed to strengthen and deepen your knowledge in nursing and midwifery. During this course, you will specialize as a nurse or midwife (or accoucheur). This course is also only one year long and can only be completed after you have received a diploma or degree in nursing. Unlike the other courses, this course is mostly theoretical. This qualification will also be helpful if you wish to pursue a career in nursing management. This is the postgraduate course for an individual who has a diploma in nursing, will have to complete in order to work as a nursing sister in South African Hospitals.

    Entry Requirements

    In order to enroll in a course like this you have to have completed:

    • Bachelor in Nursing Sciences (or equivalent) or a degree and comprehensive diploma
    • Diplomas in nursing and midwifery
    • Advanced diploma in midwifery, staff nurse and advanced diploma

    You also have to have some experience to apply to this course – excluding your community service year. You have to have two years of experience as a Professional Nurse and/or Midwife (including at least one year in the field of speciality within the last five years).

    What does the course look like?

    This course is designed to teach you how to work like a nurse who is clinically focused, well-informed, competent and innovative. At the end of this course, you will have specialised as a nurse or midwife/accoucheur and you will be able to give well-informed scientific care to your patients.

     After your Qualification

    After you qualify and register with the SANC, you can choose to work in any number of places, but if you want to study further, you can study for a master’s degree or advanced diploma in nursing and you can register as an advanced practice nurse. There are two main categories of advanced practice nurses:

    • Clinical nurse specialists: People who have in-depth and specialized qualifications and work closely and collaboratively with other medical practitioners.
    • Advanced nurse practitioner: A person who works in primary care — health assessment and the diagnosis and treatment of ailments. In South Africa, advanced nurse practitioners are often referred to as primary health care nurses and they can work as midwives and psychiatric and pediatric nurses outside of the hospital environment.

    The Independent Examinations Board, or IEB, is a South African independent assessment agency which offers examinations for various client schools, mostly private schools. It is most prominent in setting examinations for the school-leaving National Senior Certificate, or NSC for its client schools

    Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy may not be offered together as part of the 7-subject package for the NSC.  However a learner may offer an 8th subject in the NSC and there is no indication that the 8th subject may not be either Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy.

     

    The IEB has encouraged schools to try and keep learners offering Mathematics for as long as possible. However many decide at the end of Grade 11 to drop Mathematics and take up Mathematical Literacy instead. We believe that the most common reasons why learners replace Mathematics with Mathematical Literacy are:

    • fear of failing Mathematics and possibly, in the process, failing the NSC.
    • fear of getting less than 50% in Mathematics and hence not qualifying for a BD pass.
    • fear of not achieving a sufficiently high admission points score (APS) to enter university or their choice of study.

    The IEB has encouraged schools to keep borderline learners offering Mathematics particularly when they have even the smallest chance of passing it. However they should in addition encourage these learners to offer Mathematical Literacy as an 8th subject.

    Over the past 4 years, 2 927 candidates have followed this option (approximately 730 per year) and only 5 candidates over the full 4-year period have failed both Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy, while on average 50% per year passed Mathematics with 40% and higher. The main purpose of this process is to retain learners offering Mathematics who may have changed to Mathematical Literacy at the start of their Grade 12 year.  Only one of the subjects will appear on the certificate and should the learner pass Mathematics, that is normally the subject selected for certification. Should the learner also pass Mathematical Literacy, s/he will receive a subject certificate.

    Please Note:

    From Grade 12 in 2019, this option is not available to learners offering Physical Sciences because Mathematics is a compulsory subject offering.

    TAX PRACTITIONER REGISTRATION PROCESS VIA eFILING

    Navigate to www.sarsefiling.co.za and click on the “Login” button

    Enter your Username and Password:
    Select the “Services” menu tab and “Additional Services”. Click on “Tax Practitioner Registration”:

    On the Organisation profile, ensure that the correct taxpayer is selected from the taxpayer list in the event of registering an individual as a tax practitioner.

    Select “Organisation” menu tab and “SARS Registered Details” to continue with the registration of a tax practitioner. Click on “Maintain SARS Registered Details” to continue.

    The Tax Practitioner Registration screen will be displayed to inform you that the functionality has moved to the “Maintain SARS Registered Details” menu on eFiling. Click “Continue” to proceed.

    The Maintain SARS Registered Details page will be displayed.  Click “Continue” to proceed.

    If you are not an individual, and wish to register as a tax practitioner, the following error will be displayed:

    If your registration details are incomplete, you will receive the following error message when you select the “My tax practitioner details”:

    Ensure that all registered details are correct before continuing to the tax practitioner section.

    A message containing an explanation on the details saved with SARS will be displayed and you will have to select the relevant option.

    Depending on your selection above, the WRAV01 form will be displayed:

    Select the “My tax practitioner details” tab and the tax practitioner details container will be displayed with the following fields:
    • Registration Status – Registered or Unregistered
    • Registration Number
    • Appointment Date (CCYYMMDD) – indicates the date the tax practitioner was officially registered as a tax practitioner.
    • Controlling Body
    • Deactivate Registration
    If you select the Controlling body field, a list of Controlling Bodies will be displayed to select from.

    Tax Practitioners that have not registered with a Recognised Controlling Body (RCB) or that have registered with the RCB but the RCB has not submitted the information to SARS; will be able to select one RCB from a list of 11 Recognised Controlling Bodies. This information will be submitted to SARS but it does not mean that the tax practitioner is registered with the RCB as well. The tax practitioner still needs to register with the RCB.

    Top tip: The tax practitioner’s status will only reflect as “Registered” on SARS systems once the RCB and the practitioner have successfully submitted information to SARS and the details match.

    Click the “Ok” button to continue or “Cancel” to go back to the form. The screen below is only an example of the Controlling Bodies screen that will be displayed in the instance where a tax practitioner is registered with more than one RCB and the RCB has submitted all relevant information to SARS.

    After you have selected the Controlling Body, select the “Done” button on the RAV01 page to proceed.

    The Controlling Body information will be populated onto the form.

    Select the “Edit” button to edit the RAV01 form. The “Save” button will save the changed you have made to the form and you will be able to submit the form at a later stage. If you select “Cancel”, you will return to the previous page.
    Select the “File” button to submit the RAV01 form to SARS.
    After you have submitted the RAV01 form, you will receive the following message, select “Continue”:

    HISTORY

    In order to view all submitted RAV 01 forms, select the “Organisation” tab, “SARS Registered Details” menu and “History”.
    Select the “Open” hyperlink to view the RAV01 form.

    DEACTIVATE REGISTRATION OF TAX PRACTITIONER ON eFILING

    This functionality will only deactivate the registration of the tax practitioner, which means that you will not be able to practice as a tax practitioner nor be assisted by SARS through any of the tax practitioner channels.
    In the tax practitioner container on the RAV01 form, there is a tick box that may be selected if you wish to deactivate your tax practitioner registration.

    A warning message will be displayed to ensure that you want to deactivate the registration.

    Select “Ok” to continue or “Cancel” if you do not want to deactivate the registration. If you click “Ok”, the tick box will be selected.

    You will receive a Deregistration notice, that you can view by following the steps in the section below “Tax Practitioner Notices”.

    Note: If you select to deactivate your registration, you will not be able to assist any taxpayer in your capacity as a registered tax practitioner. You will still be allowed to act as a representative on behalf of others provided the service is not for payment.

    Now that you are registered on eFiling, you will need to add you clients to your eFiling profile.
