He was raised in Pietermaritzburg by his mother until the age of 8 when his mother passed away. After his mother died, he was taken by his aunts and uncles who raised him to be the man he is today. [ ²]

It wasn’t easy for Ayanda to accept the loss of his mother and it took him years to heal from that deep wound. Even though singing was something he enjoyed as a child, he never imagined himself as a gospel singer.

Why did he studied Law instead of Music?

But Ayanda isn’t just a bookworm who was just trying to push time by studying law, he has reasons. In the 2021 online publication by Tshisalive, he revealed that he studied Law in order to help other musicians when they struggle with legal issues.

“Because there are many people that suffer in the music industry, my heart and ambition is to be able to serve and assist my fellow colleagues. Legal services are difficult to come by. It’s pricey, and consultations aren’t cheap,” he told TshisaLIVE. “Whatever legal issues they face in the industry, I want to assist them so that we can improve our industry.” [ ³]

He also revealed that a degree in Law has helped him negotiate better deals for his music career.

Ayanda started his music career in 2005 when he joined a family gospel music group called Isabelo Gospel Rhythm. The Udumo album had songs like Oh Lord my God, Udumo, Ngizobambelela, Uyaphila (instrumental) and many more.
