    Mpho Popps (born as Mpho Modikoane) was born on 10 June 1987 in Soweto, Gauteng Province in South Africa. He grew up in Vosloorus and was not so confident and outspoken child. When life handed him lemons he entered the ”So You Think You’re Funny” comedy talent competition in 2009. He was contagiously funny and came in second. This opened him bigger doors in the entertainment industry.

    Mpho used to suffer from depression and comedy was his way of escape. Most people have also known Mpho for presenting MiWay commercial advert and refers to him as “MiWay Guy”.

    After joining the ”So You Think You’re Funny” comedy talent competition in 2009 he relocated to Johannesburg where he became more prominent after sharing stage with big names like Trevor Noah and Marc Lottering. In 2012 he made his debut appearance on DStv’s Comedy Central channel in the first ever episode of Comedy Central Presents Live @ Parkers. [²]

    In 2013 he completed as one of the celebrities in the sixth season of the SABC3 reality competition Strictly Come Dancing. The very same year he was also a commentator on the second season of the Vuzu show 10 Over 10. He hosted the SABC1 reality cooking competition show “Your Perfect Sishebo Show” in 2014, and he returned the following year to host the second season

    In 2016, he competed in an episode of MTV Africa’s Lip Sync Battle Africa and co-hosted the e.tv reality competition series “So You Think You Can Spin”, in which contestants battle for the title of country’s top spinner. He’s since been on Blacks Only, Mzansi Magic’s Opening Guys, Laugh Out Loud, and Late Night with Kgomotso, among other shows.

    On 9 February of 2022 he appeared on Netflix’s comedy special “Only Jokes allowed with his fellow comedians.

    In 2015 Mpho made his television debut in the Mzansi Magic drama series aYeYe, a coming-of-age narrative set in the midst of Johannesburg’s hottest urban neighborhood and following the lives, loves, heartbreak fears, and dreams of three friends.

    He also appeared in the miniseries Taxi Ride as Kumba, a man of many faces who is a loud person with a mischievous side. He was also the executive producer of the local film Thina Sobabili. The film was selected to represent SA at the Oscars and the Golden Globes in 2015. In 2022 Mpho was cast on the Entangled 1Magic drama series alongside Vuyo Ngcukana and Didie Makobane.

    Early life of Sbu Noah: Where and When was Sbu born?

    Sbu Noah was born as Sibusiso Desmond Mthembu in Umlazi, KwaZulu Natal Province in South Africa where he was also raised. He was born on the 10th of March 1986. Growing up in Christian home, Sbu was taught principles of Christian theology and modalities. He has two younger siblings who born after him.

    He also attended a local church were he was taught these Christian morals and developed interest in singing and Christian music. Sbu then joined the music team or worship team of the local church were he sharpened his singing skills.

    Sibusiso Desmond Mthembu’s mother died in early March of 2021 and he received the support he needed from colleagues and friends. After his mother’s death he struggled to find a reason to succeed but it appears he managed to get over his sorrows.

    “One of the reasons I broke down the way I did was that my mom was my everything. The reason I wanted to succeed was because of her. She was a single parent [and] she raised me the best way she could so I wanted to do right by her. When I lost her I kind of lost purpose because she was my purpose. I had to really find another reason to look forward to life,” he said. [ ¹]

    Regardless of have sharpened his singing skills, Sbu did not have a desire to have a career in Gospel music. For this reason he studied a course which is not related to music. So, how did he join the music industry? Well, he always knew he had talent so when he heard of backstage music talent search audition in Durban, South Africa, he joined it.

    After registering for the auditions, while performing at the auditions, he was spotted by Grace Mahlaba and this marked the beginning of his career after few collaborations with her. Then after that he joined the South African music choir, Joyous Celebrations Gospel Choir in 2012 following his introduction by Lindelani Mkhize.

    After all the path to fame, he has made an impact in Gospel music like any other successful Gospel musician such as the late Sfiso Ncwane (husband to Ayanda Ncwane), Sipho Makhabani, Winnie Mashaba and Benjamin Dube. He has released the most powerful Gospel singles and Albums such as Hallelujah Nkateko, Ewe Getsemani and many more.
