Official The River City Chorale Auditions 2025-2026 | Application Form, Dates, and Venues

We are pleased to inform you about The River City Chorale Auditions 2025-2026 | Dates, Fees and Venues

If you are an experienced choral singer with music-reading skills and would like to be considered for membership in the Chorale, please call (916) 489-7248 or e-mail us via our “Contact Us” page. You will reach one of our members who will tell you all about our simple audition process.

The River City Chorale is a mixed voice community choir established in 1977.  The choir meets regularly on Monday evenings, 7:00pm to 9:30pm, from September through May, with a break the last three weeks in December.  We prepare three concerts each season, a Christmas Concert, (usually performed three times) a Cabaret Concert (usually performed four times) and a Spring
Concert (usually performed two or three times.)

    Attendance

Members are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances. If illness or emergency necessitates absence from a rehearsal or performance, members are expected to notify their section secretary. Two absences from rehearsals for any reason are allowed during each concert preparation period. Members who miss three rehearsals during one concert preparation period may still sing the performances by passing a music proficiency test. Members who miss four or more rehearsals during any one concert preparation period may not sing the performances for that concert preparation period.

    Leaves of absence

Members needing to be absent for an extended period of time may petition the RCC Board of Directors for a leave of absence for one concert period.

    Dues

Annual dues for the 2019/2020 season are $175, payable by the first week in October. Dues for those joining any time after January 1st are one half the annual rate. A payment plan for dues can be arranged with the treasurer.

The River City Chorale Board of Directors

An elected Board of Directors conducts the business of the choir.  Members of the Board of Directors serve three year terms.

    The Director’s Advisory Group

The Director’s Advisory Group assists the director in making artistic decisions for the choir.

    Fund-raising

Annual dues and concert ticket sales alone do not generate enough funds to support the choir.  Members are expected to participate in the choir’s other fund-raising activities.

    Concert attire

A committee of choir members addresses this issue each year.  Members are expected to meet the standards set by the Costume Committee. Presently concert attire is:
Women:  Committee approved black concert dress with various scarves or other decorations.  Approximate cost is $60.  The Pops Concerts may require different attire.
Men: Black tuxedo, black dress shoes, black socks, white formal dress shirt with wing collar and either black, red or green bow tie.  The Cabaret Concerts may require different attire.

    Retreats

Each Concert period includes a one day retreat on a Saturday to really dig into the music – we also get a chance to share a meal and fellowship together.  It is always a great day of music!

The Benefits of Participating in an Audition

If you’re reading this, it’s likely that you’re interested in pursuing a career in acting. And while there are many different paths that you can take to achieve success in this field, one of the best ways to get started is by participating in an audition.

Auditions provide a great opportunity for actors to showcase their talents and skills in front of industry professionals. They also give actors a chance to network with other professionals and potentially land roles in upcoming projects.

There are many benefits to participating in an audition, but some of the most notable include:

    1. Gain experience: Auditions provide a great opportunity for actors to gain valuable experience. Participating in an audition will help you learn how to present yourself and your work in front of industry professionals.
    2. Build your confidence: Auditions can be daunting, but they’re also a great way to build your confidence as an actor. The more auditions you participate in, the more confident you’ll become in your abilities.
    3. Make industry connections: Auditions provide actors with a great opportunity to network with other professionals. You never know who you might meet at an audition, and making industry connections can lead to future opportunities down the road.
    4. Land roles: Of course, one of the ultimate goals of participating in an audition is to land a role. While there’s no guarantee that you’ll book every role you audition for, the more auditions you participate in, the

How to Find the Right Audition

If you’re interested in pursuing a career in television acting, then you’ll need to know how to find the right audition. There are a number of ways to go about this, but the most important thing is to make sure you’re prepared and that you have a good understanding of what you’re looking for.

One way to find auditions is to contact your local television stations. Many times, they will have information on upcoming auditions or they may even be able to help you connect with casting directors. Another great resource is online casting websites. These websites list auditions for a variety of projects, so it’s a good idea to create a profile and search for opportunities that fit your skills and interests.

Once you’ve found an audition that you’d like to attend, the next step is to prepare. This means researching the role you’re auditioning for and familiarizing yourself with the material. You should also take some time to practice your delivery and memorize any lines you’ll need to deliver during the audition.

Arriving at the audition calm and confident will give you the best chance at landing the role. So take your time preparing and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. With a little hard work and some dedication, you can find yourself landing roles in some of Kenya’s top television shows.

Tips and Tricks for a Successful Audition

    1. Audition for a role that you are suited for. Do not try to audition for a role that you are not fit for.
    2. Be well prepared for your audition. This means knowing your lines and practicing them beforehand.
    3. Dress the part. Wear something that would be appropriate for the character you are auditioning for.
    4. Be confident. Confidence is key in any audition. Walk into the room with your head held high and give it your all!

Popular TV Channels with Open Auditions

There are several popular TV channels in Kenya that hold open auditions for aspiring actors and actresses. Some of the most popular channels include KBC, NTV, Maisha Magic East, K24 Tv and KTN.

These channels often advertise their open auditions on their websites or social media pages. To find out more information about upcoming auditions, interested individuals can check these platforms regularly.

Those who wish to audition for a role on a particular channel should make sure to meet the eligibility requirements set by that channel. For example, some channels may require applicants to be Kenyan citizens while others may have no such requirement.

Once all the necessary requirements are met, interested individuals can proceed to register for the audition online or in person. During the audition process, individuals will be asked to perform a short monologue or scene from a script. They will also be asked questions about their acting experience and goals.

After the audition, the channel will select a certain number of actors and actresses who they feel are best suited for the available roles. Those who are successful in securing a role on a TV show can expect to receive a competitive salary and exciting opportunities for career growth.

    Rehearsal Strategies

TV acting can be a lot of fun, but it can also be quite challenging. If you’re not prepared, you may find yourself struggling to memorize lines or deliver a convincing performance. That’s why it’s important to have some solid rehearsal strategies in place before your audition.

Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your time and prepare for your TV acting audition:

    1. Review the sides before your audition. The sides are the scenes or snippets of dialogue that you’ll be asked to perform during your audition. Make sure you understand what’s happening in each scene and who your character is supposed to be.
    2. Choose one or two scenes to focus on. You won’t have time to work on every scene in the script, so choose one or two that you think will be the most important for your audition. Work on those scenes until you have them down cold.
    3. Practice with a friend or family member. It can be helpful to rehearse with someone else so you can get feedback on your performance and work on timing and delivery together.
    4. Record yourself on video. This is a great way to see how you come across on camera and identify any bad habits or areas that need improvement. Be sure to watch the recording back with an critical eye so you can make any necessary adjustments before your audition.

    Final Preparations

As your big day draws near, there are a few things you can do to make sure you’re as prepared as possible for your Kenyan TV acting audition. First, take the time to research the show or movie you’re auditioning for. This will give you a better understanding of the role you’re going after and help you create a more believable character. Next, practice your lines as much as possible. The more comfortable you are with the material, the more likely you are to be successful in your audition. Make sure to get plenty of rest and eat healthy meals leading up to your audition; this will help ensure that you’re at your best when it matters most.

In conclusion, there are a number of great opportunities for actors to get their start in the Kenya TV industry. Whether it is through auditions hosted by production companies or through agencies that can help connect you with casting directors, there are many pathways to success if you have the talent and dedication necessary. So don’t be afraid to take those first steps into the world of TV acting! With these tips and resources, you’ll be well on your way towards becoming a successful actor in no time.

The Voice SA has been renewed for Season 4 and the search is on for the next great voice in Mzansi. For the first tie, Port Elizabeth has been added to the audition cities.

The Voice South Africa is a South African reality singing competition and the local version of The Voice first broadcast as The Voice of Holland. Its first season started on 31st January 2016 on M-Net. The second season started on February 5th, 2017 on the same channel.

One of the important premises of the show is the quality of the singing talent.

Four coaches, themselves popular performing artists, train the talents in their group and occasionally perform with them.

Talents are selected in blind auditions, where the coaches cannot see, but only hear the auditioner.

The original coaching panel of the show consists of Kahn Morbee, Lira, Bobby van Jaarsveld, and Karen Zoid.

Lungile Radu and Stacy Norman were the original hosts.

Shortly after the announcement of the production of The Voice South Africa, the panelists were revealed with Kahn Morbee, Lira, Bobby van Jaarsveld, and Karen Zoid as coaches; and Lungile Radu and Stacy Norman as hosts.

The coaching panel and hosts remain unchanged for season 2, which aired in 2017.

On August 29, 2018, M-Net renewed The Voice South Africa for the third season. On 2 November 2018, Anele Mdoda was confirmed to become the new host for season 3.

Four days later, it was announced that Riky Rick would become the new coach for the third season, followed by Riana Nel on November 7  and Francois Van Coke on November 9. On November 8, 2018, Lira confirmed be returning to the show for her third season as coach.

    Application

The Voice South Africa 2019 entries have been opened! The popular music competition on M-Net returns for a third season and is looking for new voices.

Have you been blessed with the voice of an angel? Can you belt out big songs that elicit standing ovations?

Can one hear a pin drop in the audience after you had hit those high notes with perfect pitch?

Then it’s your time to shine! M-Net has confirmed that The Voice South Africa will return for a third season in early 2019.

For those who want to enter the popular feel-good singing contest with its iconic red chairs, there’s no time to waste: The Voice South Africa 2019 entries opened on 29 August 2018 and will close in less than a month’s time – on Sunday, 30 September 2018.

    Qualifications

“We know that there are many nightingales, crooners, songbirds and rockers out there who are reacting to the news with songs of joy,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard.

“During the past couple of months, our M-Net social media accounts were inundated with direct messages from performers and fans with a burning desire to take part in The Voice South Africa.

Now the moment has arrived, with the launch of a new season, and we can’t wait to meet the next group of talent whose vocal artistry will swirl the coaches’ chairs around and launch their musical journeys to stardom.”

Unlike many other television singing competitions, there is no upper age limit for The Voice South Africa 2019. Solo singers and duos may enter and the vocalists can gooi it in the genre of their choice – from pop, rock and indie, folk and country to cabaret, opera and blues.

The only musical prerequisite is a dazzling vocal quality. But do take note: to be eligible to enter you have to be a South African citizen over the age of 18 with no existing music contract.

    How To Enter

    The Voice South Africa entries

This season, there is only one way to enter The Voice South Africa – via the online entry form on the M-Net website. Once you have logged on to mnet.tv/the voice, you will go through a quick and easy online audition process.

First, you will be asked to fill in a short application form with a few personal questions and thereafter you have to submit a 90-second long video showcasing your vocal talent.

“Don’t fret too much about the visual aspect of your video,” advises Lombard. “Remember, as the name of this worldwide television hit suggests, it’s all about The Voice.

The selection team only wants to assess the quality, tone and timbre of your vocal chords and get a sense of your performance skills.”

For the video entry, you have to sing the verse and chorus of any song that will show off your vocal prowess. The song may be performed with or without accompaniment. Please note that live videos in front of audiences, music videos or produced singles and tracks will NOT be allowed.

If your online application is successful, you will be contacted by The Voice SA team for a call-back, and who knows, before you can say “do re mi” you will be on The Voice SA stage performing at Season 3’s exhilarating Blind Auditions.

That’s when The Voice SA coaches, four respected and well-known South African musos, listen to the singers, with their iconic red chairs turned away from the stage, basing their decisions purely on what they hear.

In order to fill up their teams, the coaches need to turn their chairs and give themselves quite a testimonial to persuade their selected contestant to choose them as a mentor, if more than one coach turns around.

From there the lucky coach will guide and train the talent through the various stages of the competition, hoping to produce the next Voice of South Africa.

    TV Show Audition Guides 2025-2026

We((zainfo.co.za team) are pleased to inform you about TV Show Audition Guides 2025-2026

Want to appear on TV? You must first acquire acting experience and develop a solid understanding of the latest dramas and comedies airing on TV. Next, what? Your next move is as follows.

How To Audition For a TV Show 2025-2026

We’re not just going to give you great audition advice; we’re also going to explain how to nail a TV show audition! Observe these five steps:

    1. Film yourself.
    2. Critique yourself.
    3. Join the SAG-AFTRA Union (Screen Actors Guild & American Federation of Television and Recording Arts).
    4. Find your audition.
    5. Prepare yourself.

    Film Yourself

Casting directors will prefer to see how you appear and behave on a screen as opposed to a stage in a live theater because it is television. Try recording yourself with a Macbook, iPhone, or another filmmaking device at home to see how you appear! Sometimes, how we perceive ourselves to appear on camera differs greatly from how we actually appear! Consider these inquiries as you do this: Do you appear at ease on camera? Or do you frequently make odd facial gestures like lifting your eyebrows, rubbing your nose, chewing your lips, or blinking a lot? Before entering the audition room, look for any bad behaviors you can break!

Additionally, we advise against dressing in white or black in front of the camera as this may lighten your skin tone. Wear a neutral-colored outfit that is also flattering. In general, busy stripes and patterns are not preferred by casting directors.

    Critique Yourself

You must evaluate yourself on the following if you want to learn how to audition for TV shows like a pro. Make sure your speaking volume is accurate when performing an acting scenario in front of the camera, whether you’re acting alone or with a partner. Like on a Broadway stage when you’re trying to project your voice to the back of the audience, you don’t need to speak too loud because the camera and microphone should be able to pick you up at your typical speaking volume. However, it shouldn’t be so quiet that they can’t understand a word you say.

Additionally, watch out for staring directly at the camera or at your scene partner all the time. Take note of where your eyes are most of the time when you do your at-home “fake” recording experiment. Do they roll around, their eyes bugging out, or are they fixated on something? They ought to appear natural, with some movement, but not too much or too little.

Make a note in your reading of where, during particular scenes or lines, you should look towards the camera and at your scene partner. Perhaps you are exclaiming, “I love you,” in a romantic setting. Two alternative approaches—one directed at the camera and the other at your scene partner—might be worth trying. Consider these strategies. Examine the techniques of your favorite performers to find what resonates with you.

    Join SAG-AFTRA

Like with movies, you will need to be part of the SAG-AFTRA Union (Screen Actors Guild & American Federation of Television and Recording Arts) to start auditioning. If not, you can start by attending non-union auditions.

You will need to start working in TV as an extra or stand-in to join the union. If a director hires you as a non-union actor in a role that is meant or contracted for a union actor, you’ll receive a waiver each day you work – and once you receive three waivers, you can then apply to join the union. If accepted, you will need to pay a union initiation fee of approximately $3,000, along with monthly dues. It is a very big investment, so make sure it is something you really want to go for! However, being part of the union will ensure that you are being paid and treated fairly on set, and you are also eligible for health and retirement benefits.

    Find Your Audition

Of course, if you want to learn how to audition for a TV show, you’ll need to know where to find the actual auditions! Try websites and resources such as:

These sites mostly post auditions for big cities such as New York, LA, Orlando, Boston, and Chicago. Some of these websites will require a fee to join (it is worth it!). And some you can submit your headshot and resume online to the casting director, without having to audition in person.

    Prepare Yourself

When you do get an audition time slot or are attending an open call, you don’t need to freak out, but you do need to get ready to kill the audition! You must bring your picture and résumé to the audition, and you should be ready to stay in the audition room for up to an hour. The audition may just last a few minutes. Be ready for both possibilities.

One or more casting directors may be present in the audition space. You might get the script or “sides” a few days or weeks in advance, or you might get them right away! It’s a good idea to rehearse these “cold readings” before your audition if you have to read on the spot. Find a friend and practice reading lines or monologues with them. Find out your innate acting and reading preferences.

Be really pleasant and genuine when you enter the room. The casting directors may want to interact and converse with you at times, but there are also instances when they just want to concentrate on the audition. Don’t try to divert their attention. It will most likely be filmed in a TV audition. You must feel as at ease as possible when auditioning in front of a large camera or numerous cameras right in front of your face since sometimes they will send it to another casting office in LA or New York!
