When was Thembi Seete born?

Thembisile ‘Thembi’ Seete was born on 25 March 1977 in Soweto and grew up in Sebokeng, Vale and Hillborough.

Not much is known about Thembi Seete’s parents apart from the fact that her mother died in March 2021 due to a brain tumour.

She said that her death left a gaping hole in her as they were very close and did most things together.

Thembi Seete has two siblings, her sister Terry Pheto and her brother Moagi Seete who’s got an interest in fitness.

Thembi Seete’s Career

Thembi Seete said that her career began when she moved to Hillsborough. She was the girl who always performed at home and in school.

She met one of her group members Lebo when she went to the studio in Soweto for her usual recording gigs.

From then, both stuck together and went on to form LMT, Lebo, Mabatho and Thembi which later became L’n’T Lebo and Thembi after Mabatho left.

Then came the Kwaito Music Group Boom Shaka which she was part of between 1994 and 2000. After the split of the group, Thembi Seete launched her solo music career.

As she did that, she also ventured into acting and that took off pretty well. She landed her first role in Hijack Stories.

In the same year, Thembi Seete went on to feature in two other films, Yizo Yizo for which she sang its soundtrack Sure Ntombazana and Gaz’lam. Both series aired on SABC 1.

Thembi Seete’s talent was evident and directors handed her roles in other films like Crossing the Line in the role of Pumla, Zone 14 as Nina Moloi, and Mtunzini as Lily.

In 2014, Thembi Seete featured in three films – The Gift, Zaziwa and Rhythm City as Bongi. The other films Thembi Seete took part in include the much-loved drama series Gomora, Family Secrets, and Kings of Joburg.

2020, Thembi Seete was one of the judges on the 18th season of Idols South Africa and joined the panel of Somizi Mhlongo and Rapper JR.

Television

Thembi Seete went on to carve a career in television as a presenter. She’s presented a dance show, Jika Majika on SABC 1 for ten seasons.

She also presented a reality television music competition called Clash of Choirs, a game show ‘Nguwe Na?’ and Crown Gospel Music Awards.

Post that relationship, businessman Collen Mashawana became Thembi Seete’s boyfriend with whom she has a son named Dakalo.

 The shocking thing about Thembi Seete’s pregnancy is that she gave birth to her first kid on 11 April at age of 41.

Collen Mashawana and Thembi Seete reportedly broke off things and are now co-parenting their son.
