After a successful first season that saw the popular international franchise make a triumphant debut in South Africa, the Real Housewives of Johannesburg returns with a second season.

The new season packs drama, the enviable lifestyle of Johannesburg’s most monied ladies, and new friendships. The show will chronicle the lives of seven women, who are based in Johannesburg, as they negotiate life as family women, businesswomen and friends.

The Real Housewives of Johannesburg is a South African docu-reality television series based on “The Real Housewives” series by Bravo Media LLC which follows the lives of relatively affluent housewives and professional women in suburban Johannesburg.

The series goes inside the lives of the these Johannesburg women, taking a tour of their wardrobes and getting VIP access to their lavish parties.

The series documents their highs and lows as they allow access to their luxurious homes and their family lives.

The Real Housewives of Johannesburg is executive produced by Sonia Mbele, Pebbles Gqunta and Rebone Sesing for RHOSA Productions. Liza Kleitman is the series producer and Japhta Mohlabane is the series director.

The title sequence music was composed by Samukelo Mahlalela.

The Real Housewives of Johannesburg was first rumoured in 2014. Another company took over production – repurposing some of the footage and reshooting with an added cast member to create the critically panned Divas of Jozi, which premiered on SABC3 in 2016. In January 2018, as part of M-Net’s ongoing rebrand of their Vuzu Amp channel to 1Magic – it was announced that they had secured an official version of the Real Housewives franchise, to premiere within the year.

On December 7, 2021, original cast-member Naledi Willers died at the age of 30 after suffering from breast cancer

Season 1

In July 2018, the season one cast was announced.

The first season premiered on August 3, 2018, with Evodia Mogase, Mercy Mogase, Christall Kay, Brinnette Seopela, Naledi Willers Busisiwe ‘Lendy’ Ter Mors joining the cast.

On November 23, 2018, the series was renewed for a second season.

Season 2

On May 23, 2019, both mother and daughter, Evodia & Mercy Mogase, announced their departure from the show.

On September 18, 2019, the cast of the second season was announced.

The second season premiered on October 18, 2019, with Lebo JoJo Mokoena, Lethabo Mathatho, Mpho Merriweather, Mpumi Mophatlane and Tarina Patel joining Christall Kay and Brinnette Seopela.

Season 3

In April 2021, it was revealed that production for the third season had been halted due to a physical altercation between Christall Kay and Brinnette Seopela.

In November 2022, it was confirmed the series would return in 2023. The third season premiered on May 19, 2023, with Mokoena and Mathatho reprising their roles, alongside new additions Mamus Koka, Keabetswe Marema, Thobekile Mdlalose, Nicole Watson, and Marelli Bentley (who joined the cast in episode 6).
