The South African Maritime Training Academy ( SAMTRA ) is a non-profit company established through donations made by a.p. Moller Maersk group as a simulator training facility for the maritime industry.
Situated in Simon’s Town (approximately 50kms from Cape Town), the facility houses a bridge, engine room, reefer, ECDIS, GMDSS and Long Range Communications (LRC) simulation equipment respectively acquired from Force Technology, STN Atlas and Poseidon. SAMTRA’s instructors are qualified ex-sea-going marine personnel, who have all received intensive training in pedagogy, lecturing and simulation operation to ensure quality course delivery. Real-life, relevant examples are shared to enrich the courses being offered.
SAMTRA is a maritime training academy offering maritime SIMULATORand PROFESSIONAL SHORT COURSES, TRAINING and CUSTOM SOLUTIONS.
FACILITY COMPRISES:
- 3 Full Mission Bridge Simulators that are DNV accredited and Full Class A compliant, including Azimuth Stern Drive and Voith Schneider Tractor Tug Modules
- GMDSS Simulator
- ECDIS Simulator
- Engine Room Simulators based on WARTSILA X-35 Low Speed, B&W LMC Low speed and Mak Medium Speed engines
- Marine Integral Refrigeration Unit Simulator
- Seamanship Training Room
- Classrooms (seating for 20 each)
- Computer Training Room
- Debriefing /classrooms with data projectors
- Conference room
- Fully catered dining room
