Nompilo Gwala was born on the 1st of July 1987 in Pretoria, Gauteng Province in South Africa. She grew up in Pretoria where she was raised by her guardians. When she was 17 years old she saw someone she admired, who is admired by almost everyone in the world, Nelson Mandela.

After completing her matric and tertiary education at accredited schools and colleges in South Africa, she pursued a career in modeling.

Nompilo made her acting debut appearance in 2012 on Mzansi Magic’s first telenovela iNkaba playing the role of Nothando Khumalo. According to Nompilo, acting came by chance as she never dreamt of it before. She was too focused on modeling and couldn’t see herself in the acting industry.

Then she went on to bag a lead role in SABC 3’s former soapie, Isidingo in 2013. She played Amuhle, the late Jefferson Sibeko’s mistress, who resurfaced at his funeral. In 2014 she had a starring role in the Mzansi Magic family drama Saints and Sinners. The talented actress was playing Phindile Khumalo in Saints and Sinners. She also did a few films, her first being, My Wife And My Lady. She was cast in a lead role, in the Arabic comedy, starring alongside Egyptian actor and comedian Ramez Galal.

In 2014 Nompilo, landed the role of Thandi in a Portuguese and English action film titled Diaz Santana, which is an Angolan and South African collaboration shot in Cape Town and Luanda, Angola. Then in 2016, while doing an interview, she revealed publicly for the first time that much like her character Phindi, in Saints And Sinners, she too was a rape and suicide survivor. In 2019/2020 she joined Rhythm City where she portrayed Nandi Ngobese (wife to Khulekani Ngobese) and the mother to Zintle Ngobese (played by Kealeboga Masango. [ ²]
