Where and when was Chuck Shisana born?
Chuck Boitumelo Shisana was born on 25 April 1977 in Shoshanguve, Tshwane (Gauteng Province) in South Africa. Growing up, he watched his brother Aubrey Sekhabi form theatre groups in the community and looked up to him. This is when he fell in love with acting by observing his older brother climbing the ladder of success in the acting industry. His older brother Aubrey Sekhabi is the father of Shalate Sekhabi who acts on House of Zwide.
What was your first career choice of Chuck before acting?
Chuck wanted to become a law enforcer such as a police officer so he was training with the SAPS to be a police officer. During that training, he received a call from Mabana Arts Foundation in the North West, a call that drifted him from becoming a policeman to an actor.
“I was nearing the end of my training. I had passed all my medical tests and was ready for my final interview when I got called by the Mabana Arts Foundation in the North West, and when the acting bug bit me, I never looked back again,” he said. [¹]

He attended Shoshanguve High School and matriculated in 2000. After that he studied Production Management at Pretoria Technikon (now Tshwane University of Technology). Then he joined police training which he couldn’t finish following a call to join Mabana Arts Foundation in the North West.
Acting career of Chuck Shisana
Chuck began his acting career in the North West in 2002, when he joined at Mabana Arts Foundation. Before returning to Pretoria in 2004 to work at the State Stage, he worked on numerous theatre shows. The theatre plays where Chuck appeared include Cards, The Rivonia Trial, Silent Voice, and Township Stories which toured Europe in 2006.
From 2006 to 2008 he became very prominent when he acted as Willy Phoma in the SABC2 medical drama series Hillside. He also had a guest starring role in the third season of the SABC2 sitcom Ga Re Dumele as Frank in the e.tv former soapie Rhythm City.
He has also appeared on television drama serials such as Molo Fish, Generations, Soul City, and Isidingo where he played a police officer. In 2018 he landed another role of playing a strict cope who ended up being dodgy, Detective Tshabalala on the former 1Magic drama The River which now airs on Mzansi Magic. [ ²] Here he acted alongside Sindi Dlathu and other television actors from season 1 to season 5.

His brother Aubrey Sekhabi is the Artistic Director at the State Theatre in Pretoria.
