About Drexel University

Drexel University is a private research university with three campuses in Philadelphia and one in Sacramento, California. It was founded in 1891 by Anthony J. Drexel, a noted financier and philanthropist. As of 2015, more than 26,000 students are enrolled in over 70 undergraduate programs and more than 100 master’s, doctoral, and professional programs at the university. Drexel’s cooperative education program (co-op) is a unique aspect of the school’s degree programs, offering students the opportunity to gain up to 18 months of paid, full-time work experience in a field relevant to their undergraduate major or graduate degree program prior to graduation.

Drexel offers several institutional merit scholarships to incoming first-year and transfers students through the Admissions Committee based on superior academic performance. The Admissions Committee makes decisions regarding eligibility.

Eligibility for the Drexel Merit Scholarship:

  • Applicants must be first-year and transfer students (students seeking a second bachelor’s degree and those who have earned a graduate/professional degree before starting at Drexel are ineligible).
  • Candidates can be domestic and international applicants.

Renewable Requirements:

Renewable for future years of a student’s undergraduate degree program during quarters they are registered for classes (a total of 12 academic class terms; the scholarship is not available during co-op), provided that they maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and full-time status.

Value of the Scholarship:

Varies, the amount is determined based on a review of the student’s credentials by the Admissions Committee.
