EARTH SCIENCE/ EARTH OBSERVATION STUDIES BURSARIES FOR 2021 & 2022:

Earth science is the study of our planet and the other planets in our solar system. Earth scientists use this knowledge to locate and develop mineral and energy resources and/ or study how humans impact the Earth’s environment. Earth scientists look for ways to help preserve our planet as well as use their knowledge about Earth to process natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, and how to protect people from these events. Earth Observation is the gathering of information pertaining to the planet’s chemical, physical, and biological systems. Earth observation monitors and assesses any changes within both man-made and natural environments.

Earth science is vital to our society as it allows us to make important decisions about our lives. Earth scientists help people by informing them about the safest areas to construct their homes and resolving issues regarding clean water, national security, climate change, urban planning, and the use of natural resources. Earth observation is also valuable as it’s used to assess both the positive and negative impacts humans have on the planet. Earth observation allows us to seek new opportunities and solutions to our problems, such as managing natural resources properly.

GEOGRAPHY & GEOGRAPHIC BURSARIES FOR 2021 & 2022

Geography is a branch of social science where people study the human race’s relationship with its environment. Geographers extend their studies to both the physical aspects of the planet and the human population – examining human cultures, interactions they have with the environment, and how various locations and places can have a significant impact on us. The main aim of geographers is to understand where things come from, why they exist, and how they change over time. Geography is very important to society as it gives us an understanding of the space around us. It unlocks history relating to the earth, human race, and climate, giving us meaning and awareness on this planet.

A Geography degree is split into 2 connected self-disciplines: Human and Physical Geography. Physical geography obtains information from cartography (using/ studying maps), whilst human geography examines aspects that relate to society, such as the economy, agriculture, population, etc.

Possible careers with a Bachelors/ Masters in Geography are Geography careers (such as Climatologist, Demographer, Urban Planner, Cartographer, and more), and Tourism careers (such as a Curator, Cruise Staff, Nature Guide, Travel Agent and more).

GENERAL SCIENCE BURSARIES FOR 2021 & 2022

Science refers to a knowledge system that is intrigued by the phenomenons of the physical world and uses unbiased observations as well as systematic experimentation to investigate these phenomena. Science aims to gain knowledge, revealing general truths/ operations of fundamental laws. It is divided into many subcategories; these subcategories are astronomy, physical science, Earth Sciences, chemistry, biology, medicine, physics, social sciences, anthropology, and economics.

Science is essential for society as it allows us to collect valuable research and data that ensure a longer and healthier life, provides medicine for diseases we may face, monitors our health, helps us provide water for our needs, provides energy, and so much more. Science is basically the backbone of society and all its functions.

One can obtain a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in their chosen scientific field, from an accredited university.
