The Pearson Institute of Higher Education offers a variety of higher education qualifications and programmes for full-time and online part-time studies. Their faculties include: Commerce and Law, Humanities, Applied Sciences, as well as Higher Certificate courses and Foundation Programmes.

The institution currently has over 8000 students in its 12 campuses, located in various economic hubs in South Africa, including Pretoria; Durban; Cape Town; Port Elizabeth; Bloemfontein; Nelspruit; Potchefstroom; Midrand; East London; Vanderbijlpark; Durbanville and Bedfordview.

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMMES – FIELDS COVERED

The Pearson Institute of Higher Education will be awarding 3 different types of Bursary and Scholarship programmes:

1) Scholarship: for students who have completed Matric with a minimum overall average of 75%, and are enrolling for a first time Bachelor’s degree.
2) Academic achievement bursary: for students who have completed Matric with a minimum overall average of 60%, and are enrolling for a first time full-time qualification.
3) Leadership bursary: for students who have completed Matric with a minimum of 2 “A” symbols, was a Head Boy/ Head Girl or Deputy Head Boy/ Deputy Head Girl, as well as a prefect or served on the Student Representative Council in high school.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
1) Scholarship:

  • South African citizen OR South African permanent resident
  • Completed Matric (NSC & IEB, or equivalent A-levels)
  • Passed all subjects in Matric
  • Achieved a minimum overall average of 75% in Matric (to calculate your average, use your 5 highest rated subjects excluding Life Orientation and Mathematical Literacy/ Pure Mathematics/ Technical Mathematics. If Pure Mathematics is one of your highest rated subjects, you may include it in the top 5 subjects)
  • Enrolling to study towards your first Bachelor’s degree qualification
  • Satisfy the minimum admission requirements for your qualification
  • Have a strong character

2) Academic achievement bursary:

  • South African citizen OR South African permanent resident
  • Completed Matric
  • Enrolling to study towards your first full-time qualification
  • Satsify the minimum admission requirements for your qualification
  • Passed all subjects in Matric
  • Achieved a minimum overall average of 60% in Matric

3) Leadership bursary:

  • South African citizen OR South African permanent resident
  • Completed Matric
  • Achieved a minimum of 2 “A” symbols (Level 7; 80% or more) for any subjects in Matric (excluding Life Orientation)
  • Were Head Boy/ Head Girl or Deputy Head Boy/ Deputy Head Girl of your high school
  • Were a prefect or served on the Student Representative Council of your high school
  • Please note: the leadership bursary may NOT be used simultaneously with aother Bursary, Scholarship or Award

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY

The application process includes 4 steps – the total time to complete the application will be between 15 and 20 minutes.
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • South African ID document (certified copy)
  • Proof of permanent residece in South Africa, if not a citizen by birth (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate/ results/ equivalent (certified copy)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of household income
  • Motivational Letter from a teacher
  • Character Reference
  • Leadership bursary: proof of leadership position
