Big Brother Australia is a reality game show based in Australia on the international Big Brother format. The show follows the premise of previous versions of the format, with a group of contestants known as “Housemates” living together in a specially constructed house that is isolated from the outside world.

Big Brother was the Australian version of the reality show Big Brother. The first season aired in 2001 and ran for eight seasons on Network Ten before being cancelled in 2008 due to crowd disintegration and controversy.

The show returned again in August 2012 with a ninth season on the Nine Network. The reality show of Big Brother along with The Block as reality shows screened crosswise over cooperating systems Channel Nine in Australia and TV3 shown in New Zealand.
