The Telkom Bursary is awarded to both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. Telkom supports students who are studying in what they identify as their core fields. For Postgraduate students, they offer their COE program, Telkom Centres of Excellent.
Telkom is a services provider in the Information and Communication sector. If you have a cellphone you know who they are and what they do for their core business. They offer bursaries for various studies they consider to be close to their own core business.
What Telkom Bursaries Are Available?
It is Telkom’s goal to support young talented students with their full-time bursary. The Telkom bursary is available for Undergraduates and Postgraduates.
Telkom Undergraduate Bursary
Telkom offers bursaries for undergraduates in the following study fields:
- Electrical Engineering (Light Current)
- Information Technology
- Computer Science
- Marketing
- Accounting
Postgraduate Students
Telkom offers bursaries and positions to postgraduate students at their Telkom Centred of Excellence. The program is a collaboration between Telkom, the telecommunication industry, the Government, and Academia. They promote research in the communication industry. Available study fields are:
- Computer Science
- Engineering Light Current
Requirements for the Telkom Bursaries
Candidates wishing to apply for one of Telkom’s bursaries will require the following:
- Candidates must be a South African citizen
- Candidates in Grade 12 or 11 may apply (Grade 11 will be pre-evaluated)
- Candidates must provide proof of income and need for financial aid
- Candidates must have a valid South African ID book / card
- Candidates must pass English Communication Skills
- Candidates must provide full academic records
Depending on the field of study the NSC rating for candidates will differ ranging from 60% to 80% for a specific subject.
Telkom Bursaries Application Forms
Online applications are not available but the application forms can be collected from your nearest Telkom Centre for learning in your community. Fill the form in completely and make sure all documents are certified copies and accompany your application.

Candidates, who have not heard from Telkom by the end of September after submitting their application, can assume their application has been unsuccessful.
