Netflix is the most popular streaming service out right now and they produce some of the most binge-worthy series as original movies.
No wonder you’re thinking about landing a role!
With so many new shows and movies being released, there is certainly no shortage of auditions and casting calls.
Netflix Auditions: Everything You Need to Know
Netflix is no longer a disc-in-the-mail, an ankle-biting competitor to Blockbuster.
They’re a powerhouse, a force to be reckoned with.
When you’re a production house like Netflix, you have options you want the best writers, producers and yes – actors!
With that being said, there are a few things you can do to increase your chances of acing a Netflix audition.
- Set expectations
Most of the auditions you find and most of the opportunities we post here are open casting calls.
These are typically smaller roles, backgrounds or extra work and they are welcome to mostly everyone to partake in (so long as you fit the description).
You won’t find many main character roles posted to the internet as open casting calls. However, it does happen.
- Beware of Scams
Do your homework, find out if the casting call is legit, find out who the casting director is for the show or movie and make sure everything matches up.
If they ask you to pay a fee in order to audition for a specific role, it’s most likely a scam.
If all else fails, take your mother’s advice – if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
- Preparation is Everything
You can and should prepare. Do your homework, find out as much as you can about the role and become that character in preparation for your big day.
As an aspiring actor, you can and should be taking acting classes and participating in your local theater.
It’s not likely that you will walk off the streets inexperienced and ace an audition.
Do you need a talent agency or agent to audition for Netflix shows and movies?
No, you don’t need an agency or agent to audition for Netflix, but it helps.
Here’s what we mean:
Most of the roles we post here and most of the roles you will find on other websites and social media are small roles, background or extra work, etc.
For these sorts of roles, you can walk into an open casting call set and try to land the job.
For main characters and other large roles, typically private auditions are held and these are arranged between talent agencies and casting directors.
Do you need the experience to audition for Netflix shows and movies?
No, especially not for smaller roles or background work, but it absolutely helps.
We highly recommend you take acting classes and participate in the local theater if you’re at all series in becoming a working actor.
