Weā€™ve broken it down for you so at the end of this piece, you should know why SASSA is issuing double payments and on what basis a beneficiary will receive payment.

SASSA WILL ISSUE DOUBLE PAYMENTS FOR THESE BENEFICIARIESĀ

SASSA said it would start making double payments for outstanding June and July accounts this week.

In other words, if you didnā€™t get paid in June and July and you qualify for the R350 grant, you should be receiving a double payment of R700 by the end of the month.

ā€œThis [is] meant to avoid a situation where beneficiaries of the COVID-19 social relief of distress grant have to make two trips to the Post Office and to eradicate the backlog of payments. The move was met with much appreciation and excitement on social media this morning,ā€ it said.

HEREā€™S HOW YOU WILL RECEIVE THE SASSA R350 GRANT

According to SASSA, payments for June and July have already started via transfers into the accounts of those who have bank accounts.

Payments for those who receive their money through the post office will be done progressively throughout the month to try and limit the number of people at the post offices on a daily basis.

ā€œBeneficiaries are reminded that they should only visit the post office once they have received an SMS saying their money has been paid in and is ready for collection,ā€ it said.

SASSA also said it reconsidered applications made in May due to updated databases which were received. This resulted in an additional one million applicants being approved for the R350 grant.

ā€œThis will drastically reduce the number of potential appeals and will also cushion the affected beneficiaries against the current impact of the lockdown,ā€ it added.

WHEN WILL I BE PAID? HOW MANY BENEFICIARIES WILL BE PAID IN ONE DAY?

Minister of Social Development Lindiwe Zulu said beneficiaries would be paid a single payment of R700 to cover two months. She also explained that beneficiaries in batches of 500 000 would be paid per day to avoid a system overload.

ā€œHonourable Members, I would also like to inform this house that SASSA has commenced with the payment of applications received in May to those who still qualify for both June and July.ā€

ā€œWe will finalise these payments by the end of this month,ā€ she added.

WHAT IF I WAS DISQUALIFIED OR DECLINED THE SASSA R350 GRANT?Ā

Well according to Zulu, all applicants that were previously disqualified due to database errors have since been reconsidered. She also said those eligible for the grant have since been notified and paid.

WILL ASYLUM SEEKERS RECEIVE THE GRANT?Ā

The Department of Social Development said the R350 grant has since been extended to include asylum seekers and special permit holders under the Angolan Dispensation, and the Lesotho and Zimbabwe Exemption Permit Dispensation whose section 22 permits or visas are valid or were valid on 15 March 2020.

OVER 7 MILLION APPLICATIONS

SASSA, also on Wednesday, said it has received over 7.8 million applications for the R350 grant.

ā€œOf this number, we have approved over 4 million applications to whom just over one R1 7 000 000 will be disbursed,ā€ it said.

SASSA, in line with President Ramaphosaā€™s assurance that South Africans will be taken care of, also provided food and nutritional relief to 3.3 millionĀ beneficiariesĀ across the country.

ā€œOur long term plan, starting in the current financial year is to introduce the food voucher system and expand it beyond well-established retailers for communities to buy directly from their local food suppliers who are SMMEs,community-owned or cooperatives,ā€ said Zulu.
