The Knysna Municipality is a municipality near the Garden Route in the Western Cape. Knysna is one of the smallest municipalities within the Garden Route district, taking up only 5% of its geographical area. Despite its small stature, the Knysna Municipality has the fourth-largest economy within the Garden Route District with excellent infrastructure and overall basic services.

DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Knysna, Western Cape
Duration: 12 months
Stipend: R3 800 per month

Knysna Municipality is offering a number of internship opportunities to young, unemployed graduate. The aim of these programmes to increase the employment rate and provide candidates with practical work experience within a career in the municipality. Each programme will run for 12-months and is open to individuals with no prior work experience or exposure.

The Programmes:

  • Town and Regional Planning Internship – Number of positions available: 2
  • Civil Engineering Internship – Number of positions available: 2
  • Internal Auditing Internship – Number of positions available: 2
  • Electrical Engineering Internship – Number of positions available:2
  • Water Treatment Internship – Number of positions available: 1

 

Key Performance Areas of the Programme:

  • Participating in all activities determined by the Young Talent leadership team
  • Delivering, contributing and participating with projects when instructed by line management and the Young Talent Programme
  • Participating and partaking in all activities of the programme as well as the necessary development and learning initiatives that will further enhance your skills.
  • Promoting the DBSA programme by participating in campus activation/career fairs or presentations.
  • Participating in all aspects of delivery, planning and execution pertaining to Assignment Outputs
  • Ensuring learning outcomes are clarified before each assignment
  • Ensuring signed work is executed and delivered at the expected standard when instructed by the line manager
  • Ensuring that all tasks/projects’ deadlines are met and taking full accountability for the failure of this
  • Ensuring communication with all identified stakeholders are effective
  • Ensuring that the line manager is provided with regular progress updates regarding projects and tasks
  • Requesting regular feedback on performance, progress, and outputs during the programme
  • Engaging in research to ensure you are kept up to date with the latest developments in the assigned environment
  • Providing management with recommendations on where/ how new technologies and methodologies can be applied
  • Presenting all learnings at the end of each assignment and ensuring that the feedback is articulated, well thought through, and presented to line management
  • Monitoring and reviewing learning progress as part of the formal performance appraisal discussions in order to develop an individual performance plan with the aid of the line manager
  • Developing a mutually beneficial relationship by engaging with the assigned Mentor

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be a permanent resident of the Greater Knysna Municipal area
  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years old
  • Must have completed one of the following qualifications:
    Bachelor of Town and Regional Planning / Civil Engineering Advanced Diploma / Electrical Engineering Advanced Diploma / Internal Auditing Advanced Diploma / Water Treatment Advanced Diploma
  • Must NOT have been involved in any other programmes
