Applicants
- There are two tests, the AQL and the MAT. The AQL is written in a 3 hour morning session. The MAT is written on the same day in a 3 hour afternoon session.
- Each university and faculty determines which tests must be written and the deadline to receive results.
- The schedule of NBT National Test Sites is routinely updated to reflect changes in sites and number of seats available. Four weeks prior to a test date, sites may be closed or additional ones opened due to demand.
- You must be at the check-in desk by 7:30 AM on your scheduled test date.
- A Friday or Sunday session is offered each month at major test sites to accommodate learners who cannot write on Saturday.
- You are not allowed to write the AQL test on one day and the MAT test on another.
- You must use your name as printed on your official ID when registering and when writing. Your ID will be checked before you are allowed to write on test day.
- Registration is date and site specific; learners who do not report as scheduled must re-schedule and pay for the make-up test session.
You NEED the following to register:
- Your official ID book (if you are not a citizen of South Africa, you will need your passport)
- A unique email address
- City and site where you want to write
- NBT requirements from the institutions where you plan to apply
- Date when you want to write (allow 4 weeks for the institution(s) to which you have applied to receive your results. You can access your results on our website after 5 weeks.)
- Pen and paper to record your username and EasyPay number
Take note of the following:
The NBT Project does not determine which test you must write nor the deadline for submitting results. Most institutions in South Africa post their requirements on their website and in their prospectus.
The username and EasyPay number assigned to you during registration is used to:
- Complete the registration process if you did not finish
- Correct personal information
- Request change to test date or site
- Verify payment so that your results may be released
Registration is date- and venue-specific. If you miss your scheduled test, you must re-register and pay again. You will be able to access your results only if you have paid for any tests for which you were registered.
Once you have written your National Benchmark tests, there will be a nerve-wracking wait for your results. Here’s all you need to know about how to view your results.
You will receive your test results approximately four weeks after you have written, the results will be available for you to view by 12 noon.
The institutions that you have applied to will typically have first access to your results, as the results will be made available to them 3 weeks after your test date. Institutions get this access only if you allow it.
During the registration process, you are asked if you would like to give permission to institutions to view your results. If you choose to give institutions access, you can select ‘Submit’ and your results will be sent to the institutions 3 weeks after you write.
How To View Your Results
You can view your results by logging onto the NBT website. In order to log in, you will need to type in your ID number as your username and your password that you created during the registration process.
You can also access your results by sending an email to nbt@uct.ac.za requesting your results. You can request your results four weeks after your test session.
Your NBT results are valid for 3 years, however, you can contact the institutions that you have applied to for more information about their admission requirements.
