SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

  1. Yellow (level 2) Warning for Severe Thunderstorms, will result in disruptive rain, strong damaging winds and large amounts of hail leading to localised damage to infrastructure, settlements(informal), minor vehicle accidents, localised flooding of susceptible roads, low lying areas and bridges expected in places over Lesedi Local Municipality of Gauteng, Nkangala and Gert Sibanda District Municipality of Mpumalanga as well as Zululand and Umkhanyakude District Municipality of KwaZulu-Natal.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

  1. Extreme high fire danger conditions expected in places over the North-west, north-eastern parts of Northern Cape,as well as the central parts of Free State.

  1. Nil.

TEMPERATURE AND UBV FORECAST

GAUTENG:

Temperature: Fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers but scattered in the extreme east.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

MPUMALANGA:

Temperature: Very hot in the Lowveld, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers but isolated in the north-east.

LIMPOPO:

Temperature: Morning fog patches along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in the Western Bushveld with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers in the south-western and southern parts.

NORTH-WEST PROVINCE:

Temperature: Partly cloudy, windy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers.

FREE STATE:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the central and the eastern parts.

NORTHERN CAPE:

Temperature: Fine and cool along the coast and its interior, otherwise patly cloudy and warm to hot.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-easterly, becoming fresh in the afternoon.

WESTERN CAPE:

Temperature: Early morning fog patches over the northern parts, otherwise partly cloudy, but cloudy along the south-coast with isolated rain and showers.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light westerly along the south-coast at first, otherwise moderate southerly to south-westerly, but fresh north of Cape Columbine from the afternoon

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very high.

EASTERN CAPE:

The Western half  Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm, but cloudy and cool along the coast and in the south-east with light isolated light rain and showers in places.

The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, but light in the morning and evening.

The Eastern half  Temperature: Cloudy and cool south of escarpment, with scattered showers and rain, but part cloudy and warm along the escarpment with isolated afternoon thunderstorms.

The Eastern half  Wind: The wind along the coast will be light north-easterly, becoming south-easterly late morning, but fresh south-westerly from the south from the afternoon.

KWAZULU-NATAL:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm but hot in places in the north and west with scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, becoming south-westerly in the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.
